Paula Granberry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vazquez Funeral Home - Woodforest (Uvalde) on Mar. 13, 2023.
Paula ILeen Granberry was born on November 11, 1936, a cold rainy night at her Uncle Sam & Aunt Marjorie Defee home in Louise, Texas. The afternoon of March 2, 2023 she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was an adolescent when her family moved from Louise, Texas to Denver Harbor, Texas because her father accepted a job with Sinclair Oil Company. She started walking to attend Faith Memorial Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at 10 years old. Paula became very involved in church activities and then her family began to attend eventually becoming members as well. Paula attended Austin High School where she graduated in 1955 and worked part time at the very exclusive Churches Jewelry store during and after high school. She put herself through Massey Business College and graduated typing 120 wpm, taking dictation and fluent writing and reading shorthand. After becoming a business school graduate, she accepted a secretarial position at New York Life Insurance Company, where her and her sister Elaine worked for several years. After leaving her job, she became a stay-at-home mother and housewife until her children were out of grade school.
Roy and Paula met on a blind date and dated several years before getting married January 24, 1959, She dreamed of being a wife and mother. Paula was the true embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was caring, loving, dedicated, creative, gifted, talented, mischievous, funny, with a dry sense of humor yet she had a great deal of patience and wisdom, she was definitely a firecracker, too. Paula absolutely loved children, which their home was always open to and they were acknowledged, she went above and beyond to make sure they knew they were loved. God had a purpose for their life, and Jesus loved them. After marriage she and Roy were members at Radio Revival Church, then in early 1960's became members of Burbank Assembly of God, which became the Assembly of God Tabernacle. Paula taught a 3-year-old Sunday School class at Burbank A/G and A/G Tab for many years. Her and Roy would give a Fire Safety lesson at Burbank's Children's Church bringing the special guest speaker & mascot "Sparky the Fire Dog", which was one of Roy's white socks, black shoe polish for Dalmatian spots and sewn on eyes.... Sparky was a star and he lived with the family.
in 1975, she entered the workforce through Manpower and was placed at Aminoil becoming a full-time employee, later a secretary for several Geologist until Phillips Petroleum acquired Aminoil in 1984, she worked for Phillips Petroleum until 1985. After taking some time off, she went back to work for Grant Geophysical in the Human Resource Dept. until finally retiring in the late 90's.She enjoyed drawing, oil painting, ceramics, she was very creative and crafty, she sang in her youth, she played the piano, enjoyed watching baseball especially attending the Astros games. She would often play catch with Kent, and helped him work with him on his batting, when Roy was working. She was Kent's biggest fan throughout his little league, High School and All-Star baseball seasons, rarely missing a game. The family was either at church, church functions or at the Ball Park.
Paula loved having Tana and Kent's friends over to their home and there were kids coming and going way into their twenties and beyond. Many of Tana & Kent's friends spent a great deal of time with Paula visiting, laughing, getting advice, playing cards, games, watching movies or enjoying her cooking and a few special ones considered her their second mother.
Paula always dreamed of being a fashion designer, which she was, for herself & her daughter. She made so many of their clothes and she was so very creative, she even made many of her own patterns. She was an excellent cook and baker, a gracious hostess and a huge animal lover. She loved going fishing and many of the family vacations were spent in a beach house on Crystal Beach, on a lake or a river fishing. She also loved going to Florida to relax on the beautiful white beaches and play in the blue green clear water. She loved to go rafting down the Guadalupe River with her children, nephew, niece and various family guests. She also loved America, the State of Texas, and the Texas Hill Country. She was a huge patriot, who would get emotional when hearing or singing patriotic songs, so fitting since she was born on Veteran's Day. Paula was a friend, counselor, bible teacher, a confessional, a light to her world, prayer warrior, faithful Christ follower and witness for the Kingdom of God, not perfect, but forgiven.
We dearly love you and greatly miss you now and always, until we meet again.
Paula is preceded in death by her Beloved Husband Roy Kent Granberry, Sr., her father; Richard Joseph Rainoshek, her mother; Georgia Ella Defee Rainoshek, and her sister; Mary "Elaine" Rainoshek Moore. Several beautiful honorary daughters, three beautiful honorary granddaughters, two great granddaughters and one handsome honorary grandson.
Paula was blessed with very caring, loving and helpful neighbors. A wonderful hairdresser and a couple physicians who were very dear to her.
Even in our grief and heartache, we rejoice knowing Paula is now completely healed and whole, celebrating with Father God, our Savior, Roy, her parents, sister and countless loved ones. Since March 2, 2023 Paula has been celebrating big, having the time of her eternal life.
