Paulette "Polly" Mitchen

A funeral service will be held for Paulette "Polly" Mitchen, age 77 of Hebron on Friday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hebron New Life Church, 925 West Main St, Hebron, with Jeff Smith officiating. Polly passed away Sunday, May 1 surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 10, 1944, in McArthur to the late Paul and Pauline (Deckard) Wrightsel. She graduated from McArthur High School in 1962 and went to Ohio University and Rio Grande, where she earned her BA degree in education in 1966. Polly was a proud founding sister of Alpha Mu Sorority at Rio Grande where she met lifelong friends and loved the sisterhood it provided. She began her teaching career at Wellston HS and then dedicated the rest of her 30-year career to Lakewood Local Schools in Hebron, Ohio. She retired in 1997 and then spent the subsequent years doing what she loved most, travelling. Jim and Polly visited over 40 countries, a lot of them on cruises. Polly spent many hours volunteering at Licking Memorial Hospital where she loved helping and talking to many people. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing golf, and was an avid shopper. Her favorite thing, however, was spending time with family and friends. Polly is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Jim, her daughters Mandy (Greg) Ewing, Megan (Chris) Cracraft, her grandchildren Ella, Graham, Caden, and Kellen: her brother, Douglas Wrightsel of Upper Arlington, and special friend, Connie Gray. Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday from 11:00 a.m. before the service at the church. Burial to follow at Fairmont Cemetery and a celebration of life at Harbor Hills Country Club afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio or Licking County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the church.
