Paulette E. Yurchick

1944 - 2022

Paulette Elizabeth (Shaffer) Yurchick, 77, of Oakmont, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022. Adored by her family, Paulette was also known and loved by hoards of students in the New Kensington/Arnold School District. During her teaching career (in the early years known as "Ms. Isaac"), Paulette made a lasting impression on her students. She was known for her humor, kindness, and inclusivity to all. When her passing was announced on social media, the response was an avalanche of affectionate remembrances and kind words from a plethora of former students. Paulette was born Paulette Elizabeth Shaffer on Dec. 10, 1944, in Meadville, Pa. She attended Edinboro State College to become an educator, first in Cleveland, then in the Pittsburgh region, notably in New Kensington/Arnold. Following retirement, Paulette was a voracious reader, enjoyed building puzzles, creating mosaic glass art and playing cards with "the girls." Paulette devoted time to being a legendary grandmother. She not only cared for her grandchildren, but cultivated a beautiful atmosphere of play, reading and creativity. Paulette Yurchick is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Larry" Yurchick; children, Brent (partner Kara) and Samantha; grandchildren, Madalyn, Riley, Moki and Mugsie; and great-granddog, Snickers. Her stepchildren with Larry include (in age order) Amy (husband Chris) Boomhower, Chris (wife Rebecca) and Michael (wife Lindsay); and grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, Leah, Meadow, Tyler and Willow. Paulette is also survived by her sister, Colleen (husband David) Derby. No services or viewings will occur, per her wishes, but a gathering of family and friends will be announced in the future.
