Pauline Beatrice McGill was born in Gaffney, South Carolina, on January 19, 1934, to Thomas and Luvenia McGill. Pauline was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Crome on February 9, 1950. The couple was blessed with nine loving children: Joann, Theodore, Luther, Theresa, Joyce, Dorothy, Timothy, Daniel, and Ann. In 1953, the Crome family moved to Columbus, Ohio.
During the early years of her marriage, Pauline devoted her time and efforts as a loving, caring, nurturing mother and wife, ensuring that all the needs were met for her home and family. She later ventured out into the workforce where she performed domestic work and later served as a salesclerk at F&R Lazarus where she was awarded multiple accolades for exceptional customer service. She later worked for Adria Laboratories until her retirement. Pauline accepted Christ into her life at an early age and she has ever since devoted her life to Christ. On January 14, 1962, while a member of the Apostolic Holy Temple Church in Columbus, Ohio, she was ordained as a minister, an office which she served diligently as unto the Lord. In addition to preaching the word of God, she ministered in various capacities including hospitals, nursing homes and the youth prison. She was a faithful witness in administering the word of God to others while consistently maintaining the desires of her heart that all would be saved.
Pauline was well known in the community as Mother Crome and respected and loved by many. She was a woman of high standards and excellence. Pauline had a flourishing and giving nature to all that she met and was never considered a stranger. She had some trials and setbacks over the past few years; however, her faith and love in God remained steadfast until the end.
After being blessed with 91 years of life, Pauline was called home to eternal rest on January 25, 2025. As her health began to decline, she often stated, "When I've gone home, don't worry about me. You kids took good care of me." Pauline struggled and grieved after the loss of her husband of 73 years and repeatedly stated "I miss my husband and I'm ready to go home to eternal rest."
After Pauline's long and faithful journey, and because of the legacy she leaves, the family continues to stand firm in their faith in God, knowing they will see her on the other side.
Pauline is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Crome; parents, Thomas and Luvenia McGill; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Bessie Crome; son, Luther Crome; daughter, JoAnn Edwards; brothers, Willie Barnett, AV McGill, and Thomas McGill, Jr.; sister, Margaret Neal; sister-in-law, Martha Adams; brothers-in-law, Hazel Crome and Robert Ashe; and son-in-law, Willie Alls.
