Gracie V. "Mama Grace" Cox, 90, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Gracie was born on May 30, 1935, in Athens, Ohio, to the late Herbert and Emma (Barksdale) Thompson. She graduated from The Plains High School in Plains, Ohio, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Ohio University.
Gracie retired from the Defense Logistics Agency Systems Automation Center after many decades of dedicated government service. She was known for her kindness, humility, and quiet strength - a woman whose presence spoke louder than words ever could. Mama Grace was the steady heart that held her family together, a true pillar of faith, patience, and unconditional love.
She loved traveling, especially the many years she spent on the road with her late husband, James Clemens, attending bowling events and creating cherished memories. Gracie is survived by her devoted sister, Lois Green; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored "Mama Grace", including her niece Lezli (Kelvin) Harris and nephew Monty (Nenita) Green, who were especially close to her. She also leaves behind many cousins and cherished friends who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents and loving husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Herbert, SR., Lloyd "Bunk", Charles "Shake," and Carlos "Joe" Thompson, and nephew "Little Herbie".
Mama Grace's legacy will live on through all those she touched with her quiet grace and unwavering love. Heaven truly gained an angel.
