Pauline Mildred Hughes, 82, of Bloxom, passed away on November 9, 2025 in Onley, VA.
Born on May 17, 1943 in Pocomoke City, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lester "Les" Gillespie and Mildred May Mears Gillespie. Pauline was a nursing aide for Shore Life Care at Parksley for over 40 years and was member of Guilford Church. Upbeat and always willing to help others, Pauline loved hummingbirds, lighthouses, apples and peach cobbler. She especially loved her Lord and the fellowship that it brought. She dedicated her life to Him, wanted others to do the same, and prayed for each person in her life every day.
Pauline is survived by three sons, Edward Howard Hughes (Dee), Christopher Howard Hughes (Amy), and John Howard Hughes (Jacob Dement); three grandchildren, Bevin Webster (Steve), Jennifer Hughes (Eric Breithut) and Coty Hughes (Alexandra); daughter-in-law, Chrisy Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Olivia, Tucker, Layla, Fallon and Lucian; brothers, Gary Gillespie (Ramona) and Charles Gillespie (Carolyn); a cousin, William "Billy" Gillespie; niece, Angie Perry; and nephew, Larry Gillespie.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Gillespie; and aunt, Juanita Shrieves.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with funeral expenses, Thornton Funeral Home, P.O. Box 264, Parksley, VA 23421.
