Peanut Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodlawn Funeral Home - Mount Holly on Feb. 14, 2026.
William "Peanut" Johnson, age 67, passed away on Thursday February 12, 2026 at Peak Resources in Cherryville. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, son of the late Earl Johnson and Geraldine Barton Johnson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Pedro Johnson.

He was raised in Newhall, West Virginia, a place that always held a special place in his heart. Though life later led him to North Carolina, there was no place quite like home back in Newhall. After moving to North Carolina, he met the love of his life, Colleen and together they built a life and raised their family in Stanley. He was a devoted husband of 45 years, a loving father, and a proud grandfather whose family meant everything to him. He was especially proud of his children. He had a son Billy whom he greatly influenced, guiding him toward similar career paths and teaching him the value of hard work and dedication. The example he set as a provider and a man of integrity left a lasting impact on Billy's life. He also loved his daughters Stephanie and Crystal very much. They held a special place in his heart and he cherished the time spent with them. His love for them was steady, protective, and unconditional. He enjoyed working on cars and was always willing to lend a helping hand when something needed fixing. He loved watching NASCAR and spent many hours cheering on his favorite drivers. He also had a passion for collecting knives, a hobby he truly enjoyed over the years. He worked as a truck driver for a period of time but dedicated most of his years to JP Stevens, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. Above all, he loved Jesus and carried his faith with him throughout his life. His belief gave him strength, guided his decisions, and shaped the way he loved and cared for his family. Through every chapter of his life, he worked hard to provide for those he loved and built a legacy of faith, strength, and devotion that will never be forgotten.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Colleen Johnson; his children: Stephanie Love (Rick), Billy Johnson (Sarah), and Crystal Ball (Joe); sister Diana Sparks, his grandchildren: Breanna, Bubby "RJ", Lathan, Raelyn, Kaidence, Samantha, Rikki, Brandy, Kaden, Arianna, Ashley, Brittany, and Harley. five great grandchildren; Brother in law Danny Wooten, his mother in law Vernette Hampton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins close friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday February 16, 2026 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service on Monday also at the Funeral Home.
