Pearl Jayko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on May 2, 2024.
Pearl Harriet Jayko (Sanford,Farley), wife of the late Joseph Jayko and late John Farley passed away on April 24, 2024 at her Grand-Daughter's home in Billerica, MA with the care of Lahey Hospice Services. Born July 22, 1927, in Salem, Mass daughter of the late Erwin E. Sanford and Myrtle L Howell (Sanford, Donohue) their only child. This is where she met and graduated high school with her best friend for life Maddie Powers and the two girls were best friends forever. A longtime resident of the Salem and Beverly area. Pearl met and married John Farley in Salem, MA and had two beautiful children, Ellen M. Farley (Boley) and John E. Farley,Phd and moved to Beverly, MA. Soon John's work took the family up to Windham, Maine where they purchased a B & B not realizing that the first night, they moved in there would be a knock at the door from a woman who would always stay there every year as she passed through to visit her family. Later they purchased a bakery where Pearl created her most famous whoopie pies and delectable baked items! The family lived in Maine until Ellen graduated from High School and John's work once again brought them down to Norwell, Mass. Six years later Pearl's beloved husband John passed, and she was determined to take care of her family and keep the home in Norwell. Pearl entered Boston University – where she received her B.S. in the Registered Nurse Program graduating magna cum laude just a few years after her Grand-Daughter Melinda A. Boley was born. Pearl later continued her education earning her master's degree at Northeastern University. She worked as Head Nurse at the Brockton V.A. Hospital on the Psychiatric Ward until she retired. Her love and compassion for others came so naturally to her that she not only raised her two children but helped to raise her granddaughter Melinda as well. She was a member of the First Parish Church in Norwell where she was part of the Church Alliance, the Lions Club, The Red Hat Society, loved being a part of all the church events, donating her time at the Scituate Animal Shelter and other foundations, as well as playing her weekly Mahjong and card games with some of her closest friends. Pearl was always willing to help those in need of help, or to just listen, to advise, when possible, to care for, to love unconditionally, but most of all she was the ROCK, the GLUE, the mother, grandmother (Mimi, Gram, Gigi), and best friend that anyone could ever wish for.
She then met and married Joseph Jayko in the late '70's and became Stepmother to the late Carl Jayko and Mary Jayko (Newton). Pearl is survived by her daughter Ellen Boley of Wareham, her son John Farley and his wife Martha of N.C., three grandchildren Melinda Boley of Billerica, Andrew Farley of N.C., Zachary Farley of CT, her niece Deb Lahey of Beverly, stepdaughter and step-daughter-in-law and three wonderful step-grandchildren. Pearl is also survived by three beautiful step-great-granddaughter's as well as MANY close friends we all call extended family members.
Pearl's family welcomes close friends and loved ones to celebrate her life graveside at the Greenlawn Cemetery, 57 Orne St, Salem MA on TBD OR for her Celebration of Life at a Memorial Service on JUNE 29th 11am at the First Parish Church, 24 River Street, Norwell, MA 02061 luncheon RECEPTION to follow service. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. I don't know if I ever met her but she was a member of NARFE Chapter 189 in Brockton. I just found out about her passing today, so sorry to read this.

Pearl was very dear to our Mahjongg group in Stonebridge Commons, Hanson, MA. She was funny, sweet, and always willing to share her knowledge of the game. Her caring personality was reflected in all that she did. We have greatly missed her and pray she now will Rest In Peace.
