Pedrito Aquintey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Princess Anne Chapel on Mar. 26, 2026.
Pedrito "Pete" Sap-ay Aquintey, 88, passed peacefully surrounded by family in Virginia Beach, Virginia on March 23, 2026. A resident of Virginia Beach, Pete is survived by his wife of 55 years, Aurora. He is preceded in death by his father Bayongao Aquintey and his mother Elitan Sap-ay.

Pete was born in 1937 in Bauko, Mountain Province, Philippines. He graduated from Mountain Province National Agricultural School in 1957. Pete joined the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and moved to the United States in 1964 where he served as a Subsistence Specialist at the USCG Academy in New London, Connecticut. As a Coast Guardsman, he traveled to Greenland, Costa Rica, and Panama, among other places. Pete was eventually stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served until he retired in 1985 as a Petty Officer First Class. Thereafter, he worked at the Norfolk Naval Base Supply Center until 1999.

Throughout his life, Pete enjoyed gardening, weightlifting, reading, cooking, and was passionate about history, nature, and his community. He demonstrated his commitment to Filipino Americans in Hampton Roads as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Council of United Filipino Organizations of Tidewater (CUFOT), helping to build the Philippine Cultural Center in Virginia Beach. Pete was also an active member of the Filipino American Veterans of Hampton Roads, the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 166, the United Ilocano Association of Tidewater, the Zambales Association of Tidewater, Our Lady of Namacpacan Association of America, and served as an usher for Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Pete's family and friends will remember his dedication to his family, heritage, country, and his faith, his readiness to always lend a hand, and most of all, his humble and selfless spirit.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Aurora, his sister Sofia, his three children: Arlene Aquintey Sevidal (Ray Sevidal); Patrick Aquintey (Grace Gamao), Trisha Aquintey (Andrew Butler), and his eight grandchildren-Alyssa, Evan, Nate, Ryan, Tyler, Morgan, Preston, and Angel.

The family will receive family and friends for viewing and a wake service at Hollomon-Brown, Princess Anne Chapel, 3445 Princess Anne Road, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass and reception will take place at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1396 Lynnhaven Parkway, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. A committal service and interment will follow at Rosewood-Kellum Memorial Park, 601 N. Witchduck Road.

Condolences to the family may be offered at www.hollomon-brown.com. Donations can be made, in Pete's memory, to the CUFOT Philippine Cultural Center at https://philippineculturalcenter.org/giving/
