Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castillo Funeral Home on Jan. 7, 2026.
Pedro C. Barrera Jr. passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love and
comfort of his family, on December 28, 2025. He was born on March 12, 1940, in San
Antonio, Texas. On December 5, 1960, he married the love of his life, Frances Navarro
Barrera, and together they shared 65 years of a devoted and enduring marriage filled with
love, commitment, and cherished memories.
Pedro was a hardworking and dedicated provider who began working at an early age to
help support his father and siblings following the passing of his mother. After holding
several jobs, he found his calling in the air conditioning industry, where his many years
of commitment and skill earned him respect and admiration. He retired at the age of 70,
having mastered his trade and earned a reputation as a true jack of all trades. Through his
example, Pedro instilled the values of hard work, perseverance, and strong work ethic in
his children and grandchildren.
In his spare time, Pedro enjoyed fishing, hunting, making deer sausage, and barbecuing.
He was an avid sports fan who loved watching baseball and football, and he also played
baseball and umpired hardball games. Following his retirement, he found joy in visiting
flea markets and casinos, watching novelas and game shows, working on home projects,
taking his daily lottery scratch runs, and going on cruises with his children.
Pedro will be remembered for his strong work ethic, fearless personality, infectious
humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. Above all else, he was a loving husband
and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest purpose in life was
providing for and caring for his family, and every moment spent with him created
memories that will be treasured forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Carolina Barrera; his siblings, Eva,
Natalia, Olga, Elida, Reynaldo, Lupe, Teresa, Carmen, Pete, Minerva, Abelino, Eufemia,
Ramon, Felipe, Raul, Juana, and Balde; and his daughter-in-law, Melinda Barrera.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances N. Barrera; his children, Alma, Esperanza,
Reynaldo, Gavino (Rose), and Pedro III (Michelle); his grandchildren, Amanda (Jeff),
Gabriel, Miranda, Andrew, Iliana, Alejandro (Ruby), Peter Michael, and Christian; his
great-grandchildren, Adriana, Jordan, Jacob, Joseph, and Gavino; and his siblings, Miguel
Barrera and Carolina Gomez.
Pedro will be deeply missed and forever loved. Though he has left this earth, his legacy
lives on through the countless stories, lessons, and memories he shared. He will remain in
our hearts always as a guiding presence and guardian angel watching over us.
