Celebrating the life of Pedro Vazquez, a cherished figure in both his family and community, who passed away at the age of 98 on November 4, 2025. Born on April 16, 1927, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Pedro moved to Bel Air, Kansas, where he spent his last nine years surrounded by the love and respect of those he touched throughout an honorable life.
Pedro was preceded in death by his loving parents, Visitacion and Leonarda Vazquez, and his beloved wife, Delia Vazquez. His legacy lives on through his daughters, Lourdes Vazquez (Daniel Dillinger) of Andover, KS, and Delia M. Vazquez (Juan F. Lopez) of Ann Arbor, MI; son, Peter Vazquez (Gladys) of San Juan, Puerto Rico; granddaughters Nerideliann (Javier) Marrero, Barbara Cristina Vazquez (Philip), Lourdes Marie (Bradley) Miller, Maria Esperanza (Esperancita) Lopez, Maria Cristina (Cristi) Lopez; grandson, Emmanuel Toro; great-granddaughters Alanna Marrero, Genevieve Miller, Daisy Toro; and great-grandson Noah Miller. Their memories and continued narratives are a testament to Pedro's profound impact as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Pedro, a retired chemist, proudly served as an Army medic at Walter Reed Hospital during the Korean War, displaying immense dedication and care for his fellow soldiers. His life embodied principles of hard work, faith, and family, which were deeply instilled from an early age on his family's humble farm in Puerto Rico alongside his eleven siblings.
An active member of his church, Pedro demonstrated his faith through his involvement in various parish activities and lay movements. He was a man whose actions reflected his beliefs, consistently offering a helping hand and a warm smile to everyone around him.
The funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Church of the Magdalen Catholic Church, where he devoutly worshipped. The community and his family invite those who knew and loved Pedro to join in commemorating his beautiful and impactful journey on this earth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, Church of the Magdalen Catholic Church, or the Catholic Care Center in Wichita and Bel Aire, Kansas, where Pedro's benevolent spirit can continue to aid those in need.
