Enoch Jones "Pee Wee" Broxson, Jr., age 92, of Lovelady, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at his home. EJ was born September 4, 1933 in Lovelady to parents, Enoch Jones Broxson, Sr. & Zula Ann Sanders Broxson. Due to his size, he earned the nickname "Pee Wee" in second grade and it stuck for the rest of his life. Pee Wee attended schools in Lovelady all his life graduating in 1952. He excelled and lettered in all sports with basketball being his favorite. He always enjoyed sharing sports stories with friends and family, especially the 1952 State Basketball Semifinal game.
After graduating, he attended Lon Morris College on a basketball scholarship. Pee Wee joined the U. S. Army and earned the rank of 3rd Class Specialist. He returned to Lovelady and began to work for Broxson Construction and met and married the love of his life, Thelma Joyce Barnes of Crockett. He always bragged that he tipped her at the Ritz Theater for 1 penny and that did it. He owned the Lovelady Food Center for 33 years and had the best service around. He delivered groceries and even had charge accounts. Pee Wee and Thelma loved to travel and took many trips with the Golden Club to Branson, Hawaii, and many cruises. He loved to camp and always dreamed of owning a motor home. EJ was a member of the Lovelady Masonic Lodge for 60 years and was one of the oldest living members of Lovelady First Baptist Church, being a member for over 80 years.
EJ was an ordained deacon serving for 50 years and remained a faithful member as long as his health would allow. He read his bible daily until his health failed him and he was always the one to pray at family gatherings. Pee Wee and Thelma enjoyed supporting their grandchildren in all of the activities they were involved in. After retiring, he enjoyed selling watermelons every summer continuing to witness to various customers that stopped to shop. He was also a faithful Astros fan and never missed watching a game.
EJ is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jarrice Anne and David Perry of Lovelady, Jennifer and Stacy Freeman of Lovelady; grandchildren, Callie Anne Perry Little of Lovelady, Dustin and Lydia Perry of Lovelady, Cody and Elizabeth Freeman of Caldwell and Courtney and David Crawford of Canyon; great-grandchildren, Blake David Little, Avery Grace Freeman, Dylan Matthew Freeman, Lucy Lea Crawford, Ruth Ann Crawford and Grayson Tate Perry arriving in February; sister, Polly McPhail; and sister and brother-in-law, Betty and J D Miller. He was preceded in death by wife of 67 years, Thelma by 2 days; great-granddaughter, Infant Presley Ann Freeman; parents, Enoch Jones Broxson, Sr. and Zula Broxson; brother and sister-in-law, George and Dorthie Broxson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Fred McCelvey, Norma and Al Hiser, Dorothy and Glynn Millican, Billy Beddo, and Charlie McPhail; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lela and Wendall Lackey; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mildred and Jarrett Barnes; grandmother-in-law, Lela T Manville.
Funeral services for Enoch Jones "Pee Wee" Broxson, Jr will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at the Lovelady First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lovelady First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 130 Lovelady, Texas 75851.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Traditions Home Health Care and Luminous Hospice as well as to special caretakers, Eva Stelly, Marlene Sanders, and Carrie Powell.
