Thelma Joyce Barnes Broxson, age 87, of Lovelady, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026 at her home. Thelma was born November 29, 1938 in Crockett to parents, Jarrett Barnes and Jessie Mildred Barnes. Thelma grew up in Crockett and attended Crockett ISD throughout the years, graduating in 1957. She was a twirler at Crockett High School. After graduation, Thelma attended Sam Houston State University.
After high school, she met Pee Wee Broxson when he tipped her a penny for escorting him to his seat at the Ritz Theater. They were married on September 13, 1958. Thelma began her career in 1970 working at First National Bank where she worked for 33 years. She started in the bookkeeping department earning several promotions throughout the years and ended her career as Vice President over CD's, New Accounts, and IRA's. Thelma was a people person and always greeted her customers that came in the bank with a smile.
She organized the Golden Club and she and Pee Wee enjoyed traveling with several groups from Houston County. Thelma was the coordinator of the Newcomers Club for the bank, served on the Board of Directors for the Crockett Chamber of Commerce and was a board member on the Child Welfare Board. She was also a member of the Davy Crockett Pilot Club where she served in various offices and was honored as Pilot of the Year. Thelma was also a member of the Weldon Civic Club. She was an active member of Lovelady First Baptist Church singing in the choir and served on several committees.
Thelma learned the art of sewing from her mother, sewing many outfits and dresses for her daughters. After retiring from the bank, Thelma and Pee Wee enjoyed going to all of the grandkids sporting events and activities they were involved in. She was very proud of her family and loved each one of them dearly.
Thelma is survived by husband, Pee Wee Broxson by 2 days; daughters and sons-in-law, Jarrice Ann and David Perry of Lovelady, Jennifer and Stacy Freeman of Lovelady; grandchildren, Callie Anne Perry Little of Lovelady, Dustin and Lydia Perry of Lovelady, Cody and Elizabeth Freeman of Caldwell, Courtney and David Crawford of Canyon; great-grandchildren, Blake David Little, Avery Grace Freeman, Dylan Matthew Freeman, Lucy Lea Crawford, Ruth Ann Crawford, and Grayson Tate Perry arriving in February; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Polly McPhail and Betty and J D Miller; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by great-granddaughter, Infant Presley Ann Freeman; parents, Jarrett and Mildred Barnes; grandmother, Lela T. Manville; sister and brother-in-law, Lela Ann and Wendall Lackey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Dorthie Broxson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Glynn Millican, Norma and Al Hiser, Lucille and Fred McCelvey, Charlie McPhail and Billy Beddo.
Funeral services for Thelma Barnes Broxson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at the Lovelady First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
