Peggy Ackerman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory (Yakima) - Moxee on Jul. 11, 2023.
Peggy "Pegi" Lee Ackerman died on Saturday, July 8, 2023, after a brief illness, at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima.
Peggy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was raised in Long Beach, California. She graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1957. Early in her life, Peggy was ordained and commissioned as an officer in the Salvation Army, serving at many locations in the United States. In addition to her devotion to her ministry, Peggy loved playing the accordion during services.
After meeting Paul, the love of her life, she became devoted to a life of service and volunteering in the Catholic church. Peggy and Paul devoted many years of service, volunteering with married couples' retreats, leading registration for couples to attend engaged encounter retreats, plus supporting REACH youth ministries. They volunteered for many years at The Terraces at Summitview (formerly Living Care Retirement Center), which was recognized with them being named 2011 Support Persons of the Year for Living Care. She was a woman with a deep faith in her Lord, and ministered in the church with her gifts of music, singing in the Holy Family Catholic Church choir and bell ringers' cantata.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 51 years, Paul Eugene Ackerman, children, Tami (Jamie) Garner of Marysville, WA, Matthew Ackerman, and Dehlia (Chuck) Gonsalez of Yakima, and Will (Tracey) Ackerman of Bellevue, NE, nine grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Bohannan of Hayden, ID, Gina Ackerman of New York, NY, Ashley Ackerman of Ellensburg, WA, Katelin (Lars) Poshtara of Copenhagen, Denmark, Joshua Gonsalez of Yakima, Jessicca (Michael) Krell of Falls Church, VA, Dannielle Ackerman and Caleb Ackerman of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Wendell Danielson, and Gladys (Gibson) John, her siblings, Chester (Vicki) Danielson and Emily (Russell) Todd, and grandson. John Garner.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 4:00-7:00pm, at Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory (500 W. Prospect, Moxee), with a Vigil Service, at 5:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 10:00am, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Yakima. A Graveside Service will immediately follow, at 11:15am, at Calvary Cemetery, Yakima. A Celebration of Life reception is immediately following internment at 12:00pm, at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made payable to the Salvation Army or Catholic Charities USA and sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home (P.O. Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is caring for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.brooksidefuneral.com.
