Peggy Elizabeth Apthorp

Peggy Elizabeth Apthorp, 77, of Gig Harbor, WA, passed away on November 5, 2024, reuniting with her beloved husband, Jack, just seven months after his passing. Peggy and Jack shared a wonderful 57-year marriage, a journey of love that began when they met at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA. The high school sweethearts married during Jack's military service and built a life filled with love and adventure.
Peggy and Jack raised three children together, Jack (Ed), Jeffrey (Jeff) and Mindy. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and Jack were always present and supported their kids and grandkids sports/activities (school functions, dirt bike riding, soccer, gymnastics, ballet, wrestling, football, cheer, etc.), cheering them on, encouraging them, and nurturing each of them with love and guidance. She celebrated every success and was there through every challenge, sharing in their lives with all her heart.
Earlier in her life, Peggy worked hard to achieve the role of bank manager, a position she held with great pride and dedication. Her commitment and work ethic in this role were a source of accomplishment, and she served her community with care and professionalism.
Together, Peggy and Jack enjoyed camping, traveling across the country together as well as with family and friends (They traveled to all but 4 states) boating on their 27' cabin cruiser, and many more adventures. Peggy not only enjoyed spending time with family, she also loved the company of friends. Jack and Peggy looked forward to their monthly dinner dates with close friends Ted and Linda which brought them great joy, and they looked forward to ringing in the New Year with them each year with dinner and a movie. They also enjoyed their monthly breakfast with friends at The Homestead in Tacoma. Peggy also loved shopping, especially during the holidays, when she would make her way to the many Christmas bazaars and festivals. A few of her favorites were: The Tacoma Holiday Food and Gift Festival, A Victorian Country Christmas Festival at the Puyallup Fair, and the local Gig Harbor High Schools that put on Christmas Bizares to help support the students. Christmas shopping brought her great joy and excitement as the Holidays approached.
Throughout her life, Peggy faced numerous health challenges, yet she approached each and every one of them with strength, resilience, courage, and grace. She was an inspiration to her family and friends who saw her as one of the strongest women they have ever known.
Animals held a special place in Peggy's heart, and she had a special bond with her beloved dog Moe, who became more than just a family pet; he was her constant companion and support. Peggy had a talent for training her pets and took great pride in the companionship she shared with Moe, who brought her endless comfort and joy.
Peggy also had a creative side, with a love for art and an interest in drawing and painting. She also enjoyed reading and often spent time with books that filled her imagination and fed her curiosity.
Peggy was known for her generosity, patience, kindness, and warmth, bringing light into the lives of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by all.
Peggy is survived by her children: Jack and his wife Cindy, Jeff and his wife Angie, Mindy and her husband Mike; her grandchildren: Courtney, Timothy, Harley, Riley, Bailey, Marissa, and Michael; her great-grandchildren: Parker, Khloie, Madisyn, Timothy Jr., Amelia, and Blakely; and her cherished dog, Moe. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, as they carry forward her legacy of love, resilience, and compassion.
