Peggy Jean Paulette (Burns) Armstrong, 73, of Churchville passed away, Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Augusta Health.
She was born August 4, 1948 in Highland County, a daughter of the late William McKeffer and Audra Madeline (Hoover) Burns. On January 10, 1969 she married Marvin “Toots” Armstrong.
An accomplished artist, Peggy loved to draw and color. She enjoyed her flowers, chickens and horses. She was one who never met a stranger and always put others before herself. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by a daughter, Debra Lynn Helmke and husband, Dave of Virginia Beach; three sons, Melvin “Gene” Armstrong of Deerfield, Kevin Armstrong and wife, Cynthia of Burnsville and Dewayne Lee Armstrong of Churchville; two brothers, Phillip M. Burns and Jerry M. Burns, both of Mill Gap; half-sisters, Sylvia Lynn Carlson of Middlebrook and Beverly Marie Norman of Greensboro, N.C.; two step-brothers, Delmas Lowry of Monterey and Bill Burns of Idaho; grandchildren, Hunter, Brianna, Logan, Dylan and Hannah Armstrong; great-grandson, Blake Armstrong; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Rosetta Mae Darcey.
A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Friday, July 1, 2022 at Obaugh Funeral Home with pastor Donald Lee Altizer officiating. Burial will follow in Burnsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons Hunter, Logan and Dylan Armstrong; as well as Scottie Armstrong, Tracey Armstrong and Melvin Halterman.
Family and friends in attendance will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burnsville Cemetery, c/o Betty Dunnagan, 4593 Muddy Run Road, Burnsville, Va. 24487.
