Peggy Knight Braswell, 87, of Monroe, NC passed away passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. She was born on June 18, 1938, daughter to the late Hurley “Pete” Knight and Myrtle Aldridge Knight. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Jack L. Braswell, two brothers, Paul Knight, Heath Knight, two sisters, Marguree Fite and Ruth Brown.
Peggy was a stay-at-home mom and worked from home as a seamstress and baked cakes for many years. After her children got older, she worked at Unionville Elementary School from 1988 until 2011, as a Media Specialist Assistant. She fulfilled her passion by spending time with children, reading them books, and helping them find books. She encouraged their reading development and enjoyed watching their growth. She spent countless hours doing cross stitch projects to give away as special gifts to those she loved.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service on Friday, November 21, 2025, with burial to follow at Shiloh Advent Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
Peggy is survived by her son, Lamar Wilson Braswell (Kim), three daughters, Cathy Tarlton (Tony), Tammy McGee (Jeff), Tara Mullis (Eugene), ten grandchildren, Sawyer Mullis, Greyson Mullis and Ellison Mullis, Hunter McGee (Brooke), Liz Bergman (Cory), and Luke McGee (Elaina), Nick Tarlton (Rebecca) and Matthew Tarlton (Tria Metzler), Miranda Braswell and Jamie Braswell, seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee Tarlton, Kassidy Tarlton, Patton McGee, Ava McGee, Faith Bergman, Weston Bergman, and Meredith McGee.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Council on Aging in Union County, 1401 Skyway Drive, Monroe, NC 28110.
