Peggy Lu Buckley, 81, a resident of the Hillside community passed away on February 24, 2023 at her home.
Peggy was born on November 24, 1941 in Chehalis WA, She was the fifth of six children born to Robert and Tena (Harth) Smith. She moved as a little girl to a small farm outside of Vancouver, WA. Here she learned how to milk cows and ride horses. She attended Evergreen High School graduating with the Class of 1959. Peggy then moved to Portland, OR and had a bookkeeping job in downtown. She then started working as a bookkeeper for her brother-in-law Bob Norby at his business, Portland Livestock. She retired in 1981.
She met her future husband, Walter Buckley, while working at Portland Livestock. Walter was a frequent customer and Peggy and Walter soon began dating and married on April 15, 1982 in Vancouver, WA. They moved to Hillside (Forest Grove) on the Buckley farm. Walter passed away on April 15, 2002.
Being a single mother most of her life, Peggy didn't have time for many hobbies. Those that she did enjoy, were gardening, cooking, and watching her hummingbirds. Peggy cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very involved with her children's activities, coaching softball, as a 4H leader and a spectator to all their sports. She enjoyed the country life especially horses and would go to horse shows throughout the PNW. She was involved with Miss Oregon Rodeo Assoc, and was a member of the Oregon Thoroughbred Assoc.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter, her parents and four siblings.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Troy Williams of Vancouver, WA, Ron and Yunhui Norby of Camas, WA, Sharon Balcom and her companion Gloyd Whitmire both of Hillside, Karen and Bruce Wickson of Hillsboro, Travis and Nicole Norby of Beaverton, a sister Bev Champ, eight grandchildren, Tim, JJ, Michelle, Sabrina, Mason, Sarah, Quinn and Ella and four great grandchildren, Taelor, Liam, Sophie and Areum.
