Peggy Dean Oster Korfhage, 92, entered into eternal life on December 26th, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family.
Peggy played many roles in her life, but her favorites were that of wife, mother and grandma. She loved nothing more than being with her family and was always their #1 supporter. Peggy embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit and unending generosity. Peggy was the heart of our family, our greatest influencer and provider.
She raised four children: Don (Mary K.), Doug (Patty), Gary (Kim) and Linda Dauenhauer (Paul); in the most simple, yet loving home with her soulmate and our father, Pete, who preceded her in death. She taught us the importance of being grateful, thankful, smiling and having fun each day. As a grandma to nine grandchildren: Matthew, Vincent, Patrick, Brian, Adam, Jaclyn, Mackenzie, Haydon and Brooks, "Grandma Peggy" was simply the best. She doted over each of them every chance she could get. Peggy was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.
Peggy, with Pete by her side for 58 years, lived a life grounded in working at their family owned business, Korfhage Floor Covering. Prior to this, she worked at Standard Oil Company and Jewish Hospital. You could also find Peggy celebrating with friends, being a member of Guardian Angels, St. Agnes and St. Boniface, cooking large family meals, planning magical Christmas celebrations, volunteering at Audubon Hospital and Kosair Charities, golfing and exuberating beauty inside and out. She loved music; all of it, from playing her saxophone to dancing the night away, often being the last to leave the dance floor with the love of her life, Pete. Peggy was truly devoted to Pete, and together, they were simply the best parents.
Peggy will always be remembered for her feistiness, radiant smile, her amazing sense of humor, razor sharp wit, silly sayings and the many things she would say that would shock those around her. We couldn't be more proud to call her our mother and will continue to "love her a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, on Monday, December 30th at 10:00 am, with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, on Sunday, December 29th, from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
