Peggy Smith Drye

Peggy Smith Drye, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away, Sunday, May 26, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Mt. Pleasant Global Methodist Church, Main Sanctuary, 1260 College St., Mount Pleasant. Rev. Earl Bradshaw will officiate the service. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Peggy was born July 27, 1933 in Cabarrus County, daughter of the late Paul BC Smith and Goldie Herrin Smith. She was an active member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, where she had been active in the choir and Methodist women's clubs. She was a retired bookkeeper and teachers assistant. Peggy was a seamstress and enjoyed quilting, stain glass work, gardening and her trips with Johnny. Johnny and Peggy took many cross-country trips in their RV. Johnny's favorite destination on those trips was Alaska to fish for salmon. Johnny preceded her in death February 13, 2021. They were married for 70 years.

She is survived by her son, Tim Drye (Teresa); daughter, Lecia Simmons (Kenneth); brother, William Smith; grandchildren Jonathan Watts, Joshua Simmons and Sean Simmons, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to MPHH caregivers, who took such good care of Peggy in her final months.
