Peggy Duncan Obituary

Peggy Lyn Harris Duncan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at the age of 70 in St. George, Utah, on August 6, 2025. She was born on February 16, 1955, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to loving parents Donald Kent and Ruth Janeen Harris.

Peggy grew up in a joyful, bustling home with three brothers and one sister. Her early years took her from Idaho to California, and eventually to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she graduated from Western High School in 1973. She welcomed her first son Daniel James November 10, 1974. While she was being a new mom, she went to school, and pursued her passion for beauty and creativity, earning her cosmetology license in March 1977.

In 1978, Peggy married Richard J. Sorensen, gaining three wonderful children: Sheila Robyn, Shawn Richard, and Scottie Kenneth. Together, they had two more children: Melissa Jan and Jared Michael. In 1986, the family moved to Toquerville, Utah, to be closer to Peggy's parents. There, she and her sister Judy launched a successful woodworking business, Kay-Lyn Creations, known for its beautiful handmade designs. Toquerville became a cherished home, where Peggy formed lifelong friendships and community bonds that lasted until her passing.

After closing Kay-Lyn Creations, Peggy entered a new chapter of service and dedication. She worked as a regional representative for Chums in Hurricane, Utah, a company known for creating eyeglass retainers and outdoor accessories. She loved representing a brand that supported active lifestyles and innovation. Later, she worked as a 911 dispatcher for Washington County, providing calm, compassionate support to people during some of their most difficult moments. She eventually joined the Department of Workforce Services, where she helped individuals and families find employment and critical resources. Peggy brought patience, empathy, and strength to every role she held, always striving to lift others up.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Peggy served faithfully in many callings, including in the Primary Presidency and Young Women's Presidency. Her love of music was a lifelong passion; she was a gifted singer and active participant in many quartets and choruses.

That love of music would eventually lead Peggy to the love of her life, James Kay Duncan, whom she met at a barbershop concert at the Cox Auditorium. They were sealed for time and all eternity on January 21, 2000, in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. With their union, Peggy gained four more children: Randi Lynn, Cryssandra Kay, Annette Erin, and Tami Alizabeth, and together, she and Jim became the proud parents of ten children.

As empty nesters, Peggy and Jim welcomed a "fur baby," a beloved miniature poodle named Chewy, who brought them endless joy and companionship. For 25 beautiful years, Peggy and Jim shared a life filled with music, service, travel, and deep love. Together, they were active in the Sweet Adelines women's barbershop chorus, with Jim as director and Peggy as president. Their adventures took them across the country and around the world, most recently to New Zealand with her dear friends, Tracy and Cheryl.

Peggy will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her creativity, her strong faith, her love of harmony - both musical and personal - and above all, her devotion to her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings.

Peggy is preceded in death by her cherished pup Chewy; her parents, Don and Janeen Harris; her brother, Steve Harris; her nephew, Kenny Harris; and her beloved grandsons: Brandon Sorensen, and Ian Anderson.

She is survived by her loving husband, James Kay Duncan; her children: Sheila Robyn Sorensen, Shawn (Colette) Sorensen, Scottie Kenneth Sorensen, Daniel James Sorensen, Melissa Jan Sorensen Graff, Jared Michael (Jessica) Sorensen, Randi Lynn (Nathanial) Arave, Cryssandra Kay (Brent) Berry, Annette Erin (Nicolas) Squires, and Tami Alizabeth Duncan. She also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward with love and pride.

Peggy is also survived by her beloved siblings: Laurie Harris (late Steven Harris's wife), Randall (Ann) Harris, Richard "Rick" Harris, Judy (Randy) Gelter; and Karen Harris (former sister-in-law).

Peggy Lyn Duncan lived a life full of grace, joy, service, and song. Her legacy will live on in every harmony sung, every handcrafted treasure, and every heart she touched.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. St. George, Utah 84770.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fairway Chapel, 1080 West Arlington Street, Washington, Utah 84780.

Peggy will be laid to rest at the Wahington City Cemetery, 300 Park View Drive, Washington, Utah.
