Mrs. Peggy Ruth Howell, age 80, of
Jefferson City, Mo. passed away peacefully Thursday, December 7, 2023, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Peggy was born on January 6, 1943, in
Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter of Phillip George and Mildred Marie "Millie" (Vieth) Bauer.
A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Peggy was a 1961 graduate of Jefferson City High School.
Shortly after high school, Peggy met the love of her life, Charles Michael Howell, Sr. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Jefferson City, Mo. on February 8, 1963 and blessed with four children.
Peggy was proud to work as the business manager for Mike Howell Plumbing, the family business she co-owned with her husband. As the business manager, she kept operations running smoothly and organized for over 30 years. Peggy continued her support when her son, Curt, became the second generation of the family business.
Peggy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she attended school at an early age and was baptized in her faith. Through the years, she helped with the Woman's Circle and made sure she imparted her faith in her family.
Peggy's world revolved around her family, and her love for them was evident in every aspect of their lives. Whether it was cheering on her boys at sports events across the country, enjoying snow skiing in Colorado, or making lasting memories at the family lake cabin, Peggy embraced each moment with genuine enthusiasm. As an excellent cook, she cherished family dinners, and her recent focus on her grandchildren saw her providing care so nurturing that visiting her house became a cherished vacation for them. Through the years, she was an amazing photographer and loved capturing each moment for her family to remember. She would even take photos of others to give as a gift to lift their spirits as well.
Peggy will be remembered for her generous spirit and her fierce love of family. Peggy ensured that anyone visiting the house was well-fed and had a ride home. Peggy's love formed an unspoken thread binding the family together, always wanting to make their lives filled with joy and warmth.
Survivor's include: her loving husband of 60 years, Mike Howell; four children, Dawn Cavanaugh of
Jefferson City, Mo., Christian Howell (Ryan Dingley) of
Columbia, Mo.; Charles Michael "Mike" Howell, Jr. of
Jefferson City, Mo. and Curtis Howell (Suzette) of
Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Jim Bauer (Cathee); nine grandchildren, Lindsey Smith (Jeff), Charlie Cavanaugh, Owen Vanderiet, Noah Vanderiet, Olivia Howell, Jake Howell, Max Howell, C.J. Howell and Jayli Howell; and one great-granddaughter, Robbie Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private family service will be held to celebrate Peggy's life.
