He was born on November 17, 1934 in Cora, Mo. the son of Bertie Artis and Mary Isabelle (Harris) Franklin. He was married on May 17, 1953 in Milan, Mo. to Freida JoAnn Simpson. The two shared 55 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 20, 2008.
He was a 1953 graduate of Milan High School and went on to work 34 years for Missouri Department of Public Safety Division of Liquor Control. He retired in 1992 as the Chief of Enforcement.
Duane was a man of quiet joys and heartfelt passions. His greatest happiness was spending time with his family.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2693, and the Elks Lodge 513.
Duane filled his life and the lives of those he loved with warmth, humor, and a deep sense of togetherness.
Survivors include: his four children, Jacquelyn Davidson (Kenneth) of Wildwood, Mo., Jannette Dunnavant-Crow (John) of Jefferson City, Mo., Roderick Franklin (Sara) of Tipton, Mo., and Jillelyn Talken (Paul) of Russellville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Artis and Mary Belle Franklin; his beloved wife, Freida Franklin; one sister; one son-in-law; and two grandsons.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Riverview Cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.
