Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Mortuary - Jefferson City on Nov. 17, 2025.
Loretta Louise Caroline Hogg, 80, of Honey Creek, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on February 5, 1945, in Henley, Mo., Loretta was the daughter of Elmer William and Clara Margaret Christine (Sommerer) Engelbrecht. She grew up on the family farm alongside her seven siblings - Arlene (Jerry) Binkley, Bernice (the late John) Morris, the late Betty (Dennis) Schulte, Norma (Dan) Hart, Mary (Jim) Schilpp, the late Harlan (Carla) Engelbrecht, and Glenda (Don) Bax. Those early years instilled in her a deep love of family, faith, and hard work that she carried throughout her life. She attended grade school at Immanuel Lutheran School in Honey Creek and was a 1963 graduate of Cole County R-V High School in Eugene, Mo.
On June 21, 1964, Loretta married the love of her life, Delbert Hogg, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, laughter, and faith. The couple began their journey in Jefferson City before moving to the St. Ann area. After learning they were expecting their first child, they moved back to Jefferson City and eventually settled in Honey Creek to raise their family. Loretta worked for many years at Missouri State Credit, where her warmth and reliability made her well-loved by coworkers and customers alike. But her greatest joy came from her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and Delbert were blessed with four children - Todd (Karla) Hogg of Jefferson City, Michelle Hogg of Shelbyville, MO, Troy (Sanae) Hogg of Jefferson City, and Heather (Andy) Christine of Shelbyville, MO - who were the pride and joy of her life.
Loretta's love extended to her seven grandchildren - Casey (Damon) Adrian, Tyler (Alexa) Hogg, Takashi Hogg, Taichi Hogg, Emma Christine, Weston Christine, and Ellie Christine - and her four great-grandchildren - Claire Hogg, Beau Adrian, Brooks Adrian, and Paisley Hogg. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, especially when her home was full of laughter, delicious food, and the sound of children playing. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren truly brought her joy and happiness beyond measure.
Loretta had a gift for making ordinary days feel special. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, known for creating magical holidays filled with her warmth, humor, and the comfort of her home. She found peace in nature and joy in her many beautiful flowers, especially spending time on her front porch. Shopping trips, playing games, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals, traveling, especially seeing the ocean, quiet moments with Delbert with whom she spent over six decades of her life, and time spent with loved ones were some of her greatest pleasures.
Loretta's faith in God was the foundation of her strength, especially through her long and brave battle with cancer. Her smile, sense of humor, and caring heart left a mark on everyone who knew her. She also loved her large family and her many nieces and nephews and Godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Raymond and Virginia Hogg; her siblings Harlan and Betty; her brothers-in-law John Morris and Dennis Schulte; and an infant daughter.
Loretta will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and unwavering love. She was the heart of her family and a light to all who were fortunate to know her.
