Peggy (Margaret Sturm) Fallenstein, age 87, of Mankato passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Mankato with visitation one hour prior. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Livestream of the service will be available at-www.mankatomortuary.com.
Peggy was born at home in North Mankato on February 5, 1937. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. She went to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic grade school, and then graduated from Loyola High School where she was cheerleader and Homecoming Queen candidate. During this time, she waitressed at the Wagon Wheel Café and she worked at LaVogue Dress Shop. Peggy later was hired as a telephone operator at Ma Bell. She married her husband, Eugene in 1956. Peggy was an outstanding seamstress, homemaker, wood refinisher and later in life retired from Johnson Fishing.
Her hobbies included golfing, bowling, Bridge, Pfeffer, Hardanger, and quilting. She enjoyed sewing altar decorations and volunteering when needed at church. Peggy and Gene were an exceptional team when it came to their endless home remodeling projects which also included their kids homes as well. Peggy loved to cook and bake for her family, so much so that her grandsons nicknamed her “dessert” grandma. Sunday suppers were a must at mom and dads. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Peggy and Gene loved supporting all the grandsons’ activities at Loyola and they both had the honor of being inducted into the Loyola Hall of Fame. Their core of lifetime friends meant the world to Peggy.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Eugene; sons, Doug (special friend, Diane Depuydt) and Dan Fallenstein; daughters, Debbie (Dan) Sargent and Sue Tanhoff; grandchildren, Ben, Jack, and Mike Sargent, Bruce (Paige), Rob (Michelle), and Connor (Annika) Tanhoff; great-grandchildren, Glen, Nora, Will, Audrey, Eugene, and baby girl Tanhoff on the way; sister Leola Johnson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifetime friends Audrey and Dewey Mettler.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie Sturm; siblings, Donald Sturm, Annabelle Hinkle, MaryAnn Lurth; sister-in-law, Josee Sturm; brothers-in-law, Coke Hinkle, Elmer Lurth, and Hart Johnson; nephews, Scott Hinkle and Larry Lurth.
Special thanks to the staff at Oaklawn Nursing Home, and Mayo Hospice for all the care and kindness shown towards mom.
Memorials preferred to: Schola Foundation or St. Joesph the Worker Catholic Church.
