Peggy Bare Mash

Peggy Bare Mash, age 86, moved on to her eternal life on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with her daughter by her side. Her spirit is carried on by her sister Patsy Cooper, daughter Star Heavner and her husband Jack, granddaughter Siera Erazo and her husband Lou and two great-grandchildren. In passing, she joins her parents, her husband Carl Mash, her dog Stormy and her cat Molly.
Peggy Bare was born to Effie and Ernest Bare on April 22, 1939. Growing up on a farm in Glendale Springs, she remembered being the first to turn the lights on in their house when electricity came to properties along the Blue Ridge Parkway. A homebody with a strong connection to her roots, she lived her whole life and built her family on the same land she grew up on.
She found joy and purpose in working. For over thirty years she worked for Hanes. Peggy also dedicated many weekends and her retirement years working at the Northwest Trading Post, where she brought her southern charm and hospitality to Parkway visitors.
While she lived 86 years full of life, she would be happy to hear that "she didn't look a day over 80" up until the end. She will be remembered for her work ethic, loyalty, sharp wit, strong opinions, and faith in the next life.
Friends can visit with the family at the Glendale Springs Presbyterian Church, 350 J W Luke Rd, West Jefferson, NC 28694 at 2pm on Sunday, November 23, 2025, followed by the service and burial. Donations in Peggy's memory can be made to the Ashe Food Pantry, https://ashefoodpantry.org.
