Mrs. Peggy Jean Leard Scarborough, 84, of John Scarborough Drive, Elberton, GA, entered into rest on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family.

A longtime resident of Elberton, GA, Mrs. Scarborough was one of six children born to Luther Leard and Callie Eunice Hunter Leard. Peggy married the love of her life, John Tom Scarborough, on September 13, 1956, and was proud to have celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Surviving are her children and their spouses: Vicki and Kenneth Little of Elberton, GA, James and Gale Scarborough of Donalsonville, GA, Arelia and Randy Lane of Elberton, GA, Deborah Jordan, wife of the late Jimmy Jordan, of Elberton, GA, and John Paul and Kelly Scarborough of Jacksonville, AR; siblings: Kathryn Rousey of Bowman, GA and Marie Saxon of Dewy Rose, GA; grandchildren: Amber Little, Brooke and Eric Johanson, Katie Smith, Sandra Scarborough, Jessica and Will Bundy, Cameron Scarborough, and Christopher and Jessica Black; great-grandchildren: Brynner Jerrell, Erica Johanson, Eli Johanson, Jaleah Scarborough, Mallory Smith, Addy Eakin, Raegan Bundy, Skylair Black, Ava Black, and Benjamin Black; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son-in-law, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Joe Leard, Gus Leard, and Laura Mae Jordan.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 22, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating Peggy's life will be conducted on Monday, September 23, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. James Scarborough officiating.
