Peggy Frances Shackelford, born on February 17, 1941, in Dell, Arkansas, left this world peacefully on December 1, 2024, in Southaven, Mississippi, surrounded by the love she so generously shared with those around her.
From a young age, Peggy demonstrated a heart filled with selflessness and duty, leaving school after the 8th grade to care for her siblings, establishing a legacy of nurturing that would carry through the rest of her life. She later found love and partnership in Johnny Shackelford, with whom she joyously shared 53 wonderful years. Together, they created a loving home for their three children, instilling values of compassion and kindness that have shaped their lives.
Peggy was known for her feisty spirit and caring nature. Her greatest pride and joy came from being a mother and grandmother, raising her children with love and attention, and always being there for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished the memories created with her family, especially enjoying shopping trips and her beloved Beanie Babies, which became a delightful obsession. Peggy was also an avid fan of QVC, often finding treasures to share with her loved ones. A true social butterfly, she enjoyed playing Bunko with friends, bowling, and exploring flea markets, always bringing joy and laughter wherever she went.
In the embrace of her family, Peggy's spirit truly flourished. She was a guiding force for her daughters, Cindy Wilson (Randy) and Cathy Sanders (David), and her son, Keith Shackelford (Michele). Her legacy lives on through her seven grandsons—Joshua (Amy), Justin (LeAnne), Chris (Julie), Blake (Becca), Hunter, Parker (Katherine), and Michael—and her ten great-grandchildren, who undoubtedly carry pieces of her vibrant spirit in their hearts. Peggy also leaves behind her siblings, Shirley Winn, Audrey Grooms, Larry Douglas (Becky), Danny Douglas (Jolene), Nathan Douglas, Joe Petty, and Shawn Petty, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember her warmth and generosity.
While much of her family remains, Peggy is now joined in eternal rest with her beloved husband Johnny Shackelford, her parents DL Douglas and Frances (Coleman) Petty, and her brothers Darrell Douglas and Hank Petty. Their spirits unite as they embrace her in a reunion filled with love.
Visitation will be held on December 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, Mississippi. Burial will take place at 12:00 PM at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Peggy Frances Shackelford will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her vibrant spirit, caring soul, and fierce loyalty to her family will echo in their hearts and inspire all those who had the privilege to know her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.
