Peggy Velemir Obituary

Peggy A. Velemir
Peggy A. Velemir, age 69, of Joliet, passed away peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Lightways Hospice. She was born and raised in Joliet to the late Daniel and Helen Lambert. Peggy built a life of love, resilience, and community, raising her family in the town that shaped her.
Peggy was known for her warmth, her enormous smile, her lively spirit, and, as many friends and family would lovingly say, her colorful vocabulary. She filled every room with laughter, love, and honesty that made her unforgettable. If all dogs go to Heaven, there are surely a few crazy wiener dogs nipping at her angel wings.
Peggy is survived by her devoted daughter, Jessica Ybarra, and her treasured grandsons, Giovanni and Kristopher Ybarra. She is also survived by her loving sister and brothers, Patricia (Todd) Hogan, Daniel (Debbie) Lambert, James (Paula) Lambert, Terry Lambert, and Timothy (Teri) Lambert; and a wide circle of extended family, including Amy (Chuck) Mascolino, Dan Monshau, Ariel (Drew) Olijar, along with their children: Reagan Casper, Claire and Charlie Mascolino, Andrew Monshau, and Payton and Decker Olijar.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Martin A. Velemir, whose sudden passing devastated her. His absence was a sorrow she carried every day, yet she honored his memory with grace and resilience. Peggy was also preceded in death by her cherished partner of 20 years, Patrick M. Monshau. Peggy was a devoted caregiver to Patrick throughout his courageous battle with cancer, standing by him with unwavering love and strength until his passing in March 2025. Their bond was one of deep affection and mutual devotion–they were truly soulmates. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Daniel John Lambert and Helen Vogrin Lambert; and her sister, Kathleen Marie Lambert.
Peggy was a proud, strong, and loving woman who endured life's challenges with grace and a sense of humor. Her memory will live on in those who knew her, especially in her hometown of Joliet, where she was known and loved by many.
As per Peggy's wishes, cremation rights have been accorded and funeral services will be held privately by the family. Friends and family are encouraged to honor Peggy's life by embodying the same thoughtfulness, kindness, and fierce love that defined hers.
Rest in peace, Peggy, Heaven is a little louder, a little brighter, and a whole lot funnier now that you're there.
