Penelope Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNutt Funeral Home - Conroe on Mar. 19, 2026.
Penelope, "Penny" Ann Briggs Brown of Conroe, Texas, went to her heavenly home on February 14, 2026. She was born August 13, 1941, in Washington, D.C. to Harold and Ann A' Dale House Briggs, who preceded her in death, as well as her brother Harold Lee Briggs. Penny graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Maryland and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Maryland. She met and married Richard, "Dick" Brown as a summer intern Technical Illustrator at Vitro Corporation. Their marriage produced sons, Derek Michael Brown, married to Adrienne Costa Brown, and Barrington Lee Brown married to Jennifer Young Brown, children Leighton and Gipson. Daughter Teri Lynn married to Rev. Eric Klimpel, children, Ashley, and Austin.

Penny was a wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family and the Lord above everyone else. She loved supporting her children in Greenville High School activities. As an active mom she worked the concession stands at Greenville High football games where Derek played trombone in the marching band, Barry played center on the football team, and Teri played flute in marching band and performed with the Flaming Flashes drill team her senior year. She made Teri's costumes for the traditional Band and Flash Floor show her senior year.

They moved to North Carolina when Dick had period of health issues to be near his family. During that time, they enjoyed trips to Washington, DC to be a part of Gipson and Leighton's young lives. When Dick's health improved, they moved back to Texas where Eric pastored Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in The Woodlands. She continued to support her grandchildren in their activities, making costumes for Ashley who won a special award for her Princess Zelda costume at a COMIC CON event, attended Austin's performances in the Christian Youth Theater, helped Gipson learn to design and sew her own clothes, among other things. After Eric was called to Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa, they enjoyed spending white Christmases in Iowa.

After her career as a CAD CAM operator for E-Systems in Greenville, she enjoyed many forms of arts and crafts when they returned from North Carolina to live in Conroe, Texas. She made quilts, designed and produced custom jewelry, and in her final years in the Crafts Circle at the Woodlands Methodist Church, where she crocheted stuffed animals for their annual crafts bazar auction for missions. As a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry, she crocheted shawls to be given to the sick and shut ins. She had a wonderful group of friends who were cat lovers, like her, and exchanged daily cat cartoons and good wishes to start their day.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Three Oaks Hospice, Cornerstone Caregivers and Magnolia Woods Assisted Care facility for the compassionate care and support provided to Penny Brown and our family. These caregivers became part of our family during this journey. The ministry, prayer teams and fellow parishioners at the Woodlands Methodist Church provided critical support during this difficult time as well.

A joint memorial service for Dick and Penny Brown will be held at the Woodlands Methodist Church, Robb Chapel, Friday, April 10th at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Cancer Center.
