Blue Hill Resident Penny Jean Witte, 62, died surrounded by her devoted husband and children on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Grand Island Regional Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, after an 8-year battle with breast cancer. Services are Monday, January 19, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill with Rev. Glen Wurdeman officiating. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery in Blue Hill. Visitation is Saturday, January 17, 2026, and Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 1 to 8 p.m., with family present Sunday from 5 to 7 pm at Merten-Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill, Nebraska. Penny Jean (Seeman) Witte was born April 8, 1963, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Donald and Kathryn (Post) Seeman. She was baptized into the Christian faith on May 5, 1963, and confirmed on April 24, 1977, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. Penny attended Trinity Lutheran School in Blue Hill through fourth grade. She then attended Blue Hill Community School and graduated with the class of 1981. After high school, she went on to Joseph College of Beauty in Hastings, Nebraska, and graduated in 1982. She worked as a beautician for several years. Over the years, she enjoyed many different occupations. Her most recent being a receptionist at Ridgeline CPAs.

Penny volunteered for many activities and organizations. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the council for several years, teaching Sunday School, and was a member of the choir. Other organizations include Blue Hill Golf Association, Partners and Learning, Compassionate Friends, coached several youth sports, and an avid Blue Hill Bobcat Fan. Penny rarely missed an activity of the ones she loved.

Penny was united in marriage with Norman Witte on December 11, 1982, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. They spent 43 wonderful years together. This marriage was blessed with 5 wonderful children: Scott, Rachel, April, Travis, and Maci. Penny had a special relationship with each of her children. She was the number one supporter of all the activities of her children and grandchildren were involved in. Penny enjoyed traveling and taking trips with her family and friends. She enjoyed music, whether she was listening or singing. Penny enjoyed singing karaoke and going to concerts. Penny found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. Whether cheering them on at sporting events, attending school activities, or simply sharing stories and laughter, she was their biggest supporter and proudest fan. She rarely missed a game and could always be found on the sidelines, smiling, and encouraging.

Penny is survived by her husband Norman Witte of Blue Hill, Nebraska; four children, Scott (Lyndsey) Witte of Hastings, Nebraska, Rachel (Phillip) Runyan of Blue Hill, Nebraska, April (Brandon) Hotovy of Grand Island, Nebraska, Maci Witte of Clay Center, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren: Sydney, Pyper, and Nyla Witte, Angel, Gunnar, Emery, Boone and Bridger Runyan, and Josie, Mallory, and Callie Hotovy; mother, Kathryn Seeman, Blue Hill, Nebraska; two sisters, Julie (William) Zimmerman of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Sherri (John) Lynn of Ayr, Nebraska, one brother, Henry Seeman of Blue Hill, Nebraska. Along with 1 niece and 5 nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Donald Seeman; her father and mother-in-law Walter and LaVera Witte, her son, Travis Witte; and one grandson, Javin Witte.
