Percy Lee Lindsey, 82, of Canton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Percy was born on December 4, 1942, in Canton, Mississippi, alongside his twin brother, Harry, to the union of the late Melvin Lindsey Sr. and Josiphine Perry Lindsey. One of ten children, Percy was a honor student who graduated from Rodgers High School in 1963. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country from June 1, 1963, to November 21, 1966, and receiving an honorable discharge.
Upon returning home, Percy helped his family work the land and pursued higher education at Jackson State University, where he earned a degree in Industrial Arts. On September 6, 1970, he married Ruby Dell Caldwell, and the couple settled in West Helena, Arkansas. Their loving union was blessed with three children: Kimberly, Derrick, and Dennis. They remained devoted to one another until Ruby's passing on October 17, 2007.
Percy dedicated his career to the Helena–West Helena School District, where he served as the Industrial Arts teacher at Miller Junior High School. He was a mentor to many students, active in the community, and built lasting friendships throughout his years of service. After retiring in the early 2000s, Percy and Ruby returned to Canton, where he remained engaged in his community and his faith as a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Known for his warm spirit and unmistakable presence, Percy was often seen driving his beloved Big Blue Dodge around town. He had a passion for gardening and a deep love for his family.
Percy is survived by his children: Kimberly, Derrick, and Dennis; his twin brother, Harry Lindsey; and his sisters, Hazel Smith, Lucille Moore (James Moore), and Eliza Knight. He leaves behind eight grandchildren-Derrick, Raheem, Jarian, Emonte, Rhyann, Tequila, Ashanta, and Ava-and three great-grandchildren. Percy is also remembered by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
