Perry Isom Obituary

Perry Isom

Perry C Isom, III, 88, of Tulsa, OK, passed away May 10, 2021 after a brief illness. Perry, known as Bud or Buddy to friends, was born November 9, 1932 to Perry, Jr and Anemone Isom in Hominy, OK. The family moved to Tulsa in 1940 where he graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1950 and later attended The University of Tulsa where he studied business. His father had opened "Perry's Food Store" when they came to Tulsa and Perry worked in the business all his life, becoming the full owner in 1986. Under his leadership, the store gained the reputation of a "Custom Beef and Specialty Meat Market" throughout Tulsa and the surrounding areas. Perry became a well-known business leader in the Whittier Square Improvement District, serving as treasurer for many years. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. Those fortunate to have known and loved Perry were blessed by his generosity and encouragement to achieve their goals. In his free time, Perry loved sailing, TU sporting events and his three Italian Greyhounds. He was preceded in death by sons, Michael Thompson and Gregory Isom; grandson, Joshua McCance; and brother, Phillip Isom. He is survived by his wife, Irene of the home; daughter, Renee Carlozzi and husband, Al; granddaughter, Loren Marshall; sister, Sherry Hoort, husband, Lewis and family; sister-in-law, Doris Bell and family; and Elaine McCance and family of Tulsa; along with many longtime friends and employees.

A service to celebrate his life will be held May 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at Floral Haven Funeral Home Rose Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation of Texas and Oklahoma (www.igrescuetx.org). www.floralhaven.com

Bud was a great man. He wanted people to better themselves, but he also had a way of making you feel accepted as the person you were at that point in your life. He was full of wisdom, he enjoyed a good laugh, and he always had a story to tell. I'll miss him, and although I wish he was still with us, I know he's going to have fun running that big meat market in the sky like he always talked about. Safe travels Bud. You will always be missed. -Heather Dragneel

We remember Uncle Buddy as a extremely hard working and high energy guy, when we were little and growing up. We were lucky to be around him. He was always helping friends and family. He will be missed.

He was a great man. He did so much for our neighborhood ( Kendall Whittier). He always donated food or money for our events. He never said no. He volunteered with special focus groups to improve our neighborhood. There is so much good to say about Buddy he will truly be missed.

So sorry to hear of Buddy's passing. I have known this family for years. Helped take care of his mom, Anemone, at home in her final year of life and worked at the store as a Cashier and Meat Wrapper back in the mid 70's. He will be missed ay many people in the Tulsa area. A true Tulsa Icon. Everyone has heard of Perry's Food Store and the great meat they put out.

I grew up in the Whittier Square neighborhood and Perry's was a fixture there. My parents always told me that Perry's had the best meat in town. A great store in a great neighborhood where everyone knew everyone else. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

I used to go to Perry's everyday after school at Whittier. When I became an adult would always shop there, they do have the best meat. In later years I kept up because of his adorable wife Irene! She was my hygienist and the best I have EVER had. Irene, I am so sorry for your loss and Heaven's gain. xo
