Mr. Richard "Pete" Lee Puckett, age 84, of Buchanan, GA, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on April 13, 2025. He was born July 28, 1940 in Haralson County, GA to the late Oscar Puckett and Lottie Holeman Puckett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Williams Puckett; sister and brother in law, Ruth and Shorty Davis; brothers and sisters in law, Harold Puckett, Henry and Hazel Puckett, Robert Puckett, and Sarah Puckett; and great granddaughter, Brooklynn.
Pete retired from Associated Rubber Company with 25 years as an over the road trucker. After 20 years of driving, he received the "Safe Drivers Award" in recognition of 20 years of service and 1,500,000 miles driven without an at-fault accident. This award is in comparison to how he lived his life. He was a dedicated and focused husband, father, PePaw, friend and employee.
To many people he was not only known as Pete but as PePaw. He loved the simple life and spending quality time with his daughters and grandchildren. He valued teaching them his "jack of all trades" skills as well as throwing in a good joke now and again. His greatest lifelong accomplishment was his faith in God and his family. He was a great man of integrity and pride and instilled those attributes in his children and grandchildren. He no doubt passed down a wealth of knowledge and skills that will be carried on.
He is survived by his daughters and son in law, Sherri Owen, Sheila and Joey Hicks, and Shelley Puckett, all of Tallapoosa; grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua Owen and Ashley, Jennifer and Jonathan Gray, Brandon and Christin Wright, Mallory Hicks and Alex, Anslee and Justin Akins, and Alex Fanucci and Jenny; great grandchildren, Emma, Lily, Dalton, Grason, Landon, Logan, Linkyn, Livie Grace, Piper, Annie Ruth, Reghan, Avereigh, Owen, and Freya; and brother, Dickie Puckett of Tallapoosa.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 3:00PM at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Alton Stamey officiating. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Josh Owen, Brandon Wright, Jonathan Gray, Justin Akins, Alex Voyles, and Blake Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Williams, Dickie Puckett, Hal Wood, Landon Wright, Logan Wright, Dalton Gary, and Alex Fanucci.. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Providence Church Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to assist with their service costs. Donations may be made to the funeral home in person, via phone, or on our website through the Services Tab and Payment Center.
