A Life Well Lived: Peter Lawrence Ahern
Peter L. Ahern died after a long illness in his home state of New Jersey on February 20, 2025. Born in Meriden, Connecticut, in 1947 to parents Nathalie (Houdlette) Ahern and Lawrence Ahern, Peter was graduated from Monmouth University in 1972 and began a career in IT work which took him to various parts of the country before settling in Middletown, New Jersey, where he lived for more than 35 years. His professional career included Bell Labs, AT&T, and Dun & Bradstreet.
Peter's love and devotion to his family saw him providing much-needed support to his mother and other family elders in their later years with his calm, kind presence and quiet sense of humor, which will be sorely missed.
Some of Peter's family settled in Maine and other parts of New England in the 1750's, which no doubt contributed to his love of history: During Weekend in Old Monmouth celebrations, Peter was often seen in his 18th century outfit.
Peter was also a stalwart of Old First Church in Middletown, where his expertise and guidance as the Chair of the Board of Trustees were essential during renovations of the 1832 structure. He worked with a team instrumental in locating many artifacts from the church's early history, digging under the 1832 building, the third on its site.
Peter is survived by his son, Bryan Cimicata; grandson, Brandon Cimicata of San Marcos, California; sisters, Tracy Christoff of Akron, Ohio and Marie Ahern Church of Pearisburg, Virginia; cousins, Melora Norman of Belfast, Maine, Christopher Turco of Kingston, New York, Steven Disbrow, and other cousins.
A Celebration of Peter's Life will take place on Saturday, May 17, at 11 AM, at Old First Church, 69 Kings Highway, Middletown, New Jersey. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Old First Church.

Dad,

You were the most selfless man I´ve ever known always giving, always helping others, never asking for anything in return. I miss you dearly every single day.

I promise to keep your dreams and plans for the family farmhouse alive and honor everything you built. Thank you for being such an incredible example of strength, kindness, and love.

I hope I make you proud down here.
Until we meet again...
I love you.

Bryan

Dear Peter, my friend, my love,
A beautiful mind,
A heart filled with joy,
Always there,
to lend a hand,
to answer a question,
to solve a problem.
Always there,
sharing a song,
communing with nature,
serving humanity.
You've enriched my life in countless ways,
memories, forever in my heart.
I will miss your smile
and your gentle ways.
Rest easy, dear Peter.
I Love You

Peter had a kind and generous heart. He truly loved Old First Church. He was a staple there. We are so sad to hear of his passing. Susan Megan Joshua Reid

Peter was a member of Poricy Park Conservancy and in the process of becoming a Trustee when he became ill last year. I spoke with him regularly and he was looking forward to participating in the 250 Celebration.
Out deep condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.
