Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home - Middletown on Sep. 14, 2023.
Peter Astore, 79, of
Middletown, DE passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and music, early Tuesday morning August 22 at Christiana Hospital.
Born in
Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Peter was the son of the late Margaret and John Astore. He was the loving and devoted husband of Donna A. Bond-Astore.
Peter was a proud veteran, serving in the US Navy on the USS Cascade (AD-16). He later worked in commercial insurance before retiring. Pete was a substitute teacher in the Appoquinimink School District for a number of years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, the Delaware Saengerbund (Newark), and the Men's Senior Golf League in Middletown.
Peter was an avid golfer, playing with his friends Monday through Friday all year long, even in the winter. He played golf with his brother-in-law in Aruba and Antigua while on a Caribbean cruise in December 2022. Peter and Donna celebrated their COVID-delayed honeymoon in northern Italy in April 2023, traveling to Asti (birthplace of his father), Milan, Venice, Florence, and Rome.
Peter was an active, vibrant, fun-loving man who loved his wife, his family, golf, and professional sports (especially the Patriots, Buccaneers, and Red Sox, but he also followed the Eagles and Phillies)/ He loved music, live bands (always staying until the end), concerts (tailgating until the parking lot emptied), dining out, traveling, mowing the yard, shoveling snow, playing games (especially "Family Game Day", where everybody wanted to be on his team because Pete would always seem to quietly win from out of nowhere!). He liked watching game shows, making his own tomato sauce, eating pasta, and of course peanut butter! He liked all peanut butter desserts; especially peanut butter eggs, the peanut butter explosion from Mulligans, and the peanut butter bombs from Cantwell's and Vincente's restaurants. For Pete's Sake was a peanut butter beer he liked on occasion, and a newly discovered mixed drink, the Peanut Butter Whiskey Martini.
He looked forward to his grandchildren's sporting events, never forgetting a date or time. He always celebrated his "month-anniversaries" on the 23rd of every month with a lovely dinner, flowers, or dancing to a special song in the kitchen.
Peter left a legacy of love and a lifetime of great memories. He will be missed by anyone who knew him.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend memorial services at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, on Friday, September 29th with visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 am. The service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Deacon Mike from St. Joseph's Parish. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff who tended to Peter's care at Christiana Hospital.
