Peter Behrend, age 85, entered eternal life on January 18, 2025.
Pete was born on May 14, 1939, to Fred and Marguerite (Place) Behrend in Oconomowoc,
WI. He spent his whole childhood in Oconomowoc and graduated from Oconomowoc High
School in 1957. After high school graduation, Pete enlisted in the United States Air Force
where he worked as a fire fighter. During his time in the service, Pete spent time overseas in
England, a place he loved and spoke fondly about. Upon his honorable discharge from the
service, Pete spent a brief time living in Houma, LA with his oldest sister Beverly. Realizing
he hated the heat and humidity, Pete returned to his hometown of Oconomowoc where he
would reside until his retirement from Briggs and Stratton in 2001. During his time in
Oconomowoc, Pete would buy his childhood home where he would eventually raise his 3
boys. He spent his time working, shooting archery, bowling, and golfing while maintaining
balance and order at 729. Pete was proud of his sons, though they were hellraisers. There
was never a dull moment, as those who knew the family best could attest to. Upon his
retirement from Briggs and Stratton in 2001, Pete moved to his favorite place "Up North" to
his second home. He was introduced to the game of archery golf in the mid 1960's. He
would spend weekends camping at the North Fond Du Lac Archery Club where he would
compete in archery golf tournaments. He found a sport that combined two of his biggest
passions and fell in love with it. In 1978, a trailer on a ½ acre directly across the street
came up for sale and he jumped at the chance to purchase it. After years of going up there
on weekends and during vacations, he was finally able to call the area home. He spent his
last 24 years there and loved every minute of it. Over the course of those 24 years, Pete
spent his time taking care of his yard, shooting archery golf, playing golf, and visiting local
watering holes with his friends and family.
Pete will be remembered for a lot of things, but most notably, will be remembered for his willingness to help anyone out who needed it (and his occasional b*tching about the littlest things)
Pete is survived by his 3 sons: Shaun (Alexandria), Matt (Steph) and Adam and his
grandchildren: Violet, Eleanor, Victor, Cyrus, Owen, Hailey, Penelope, and his brother Fritz.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Louie, Phil "Spider", Beverly and Bonnie
and his son Benjamin.
A celebration of life will be held by Pete's family at a later date.
