Peter Clinton Bentley, age 84, of Northport, Alabama, passed away August 4, 2025 at DCH Regional Medical Center. His Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Magnolia Chapel North.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Bentley; and brothers John Bentley, and William Bentley.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann O’Neil Bentley; sons, Stephen Clinton Bentley and Christopher O’Neil Bentley; grandchildren, Layne Bentley, and Jay Bentley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Becky O’Neil; sister-in-law, Lynda O. Powell; nieces and nephews, Summer Powell Aldrich (John), Patrick S. Powell, Tyler J. Powell, Carrie Dombeck, Luke O’Neil (Taylor), Jake O’Neil (Carly), Kellie O’Neil White, and Kasie O’Neil Elmore (Ryan); and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pete retired from Gulf States Paper. He was an avid golfer and worked at Old Colony Golf Club. He also enjoyed duplicate bridge. It may surprise some, but Pete wrote poetry from time to time, often on the solace and beauty he found in nature.
He and Mary Ann were married in 1964. Their first son, Steve, was born in 1967 and their second son, Chris, was born in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army spending a year in Germany in 1968. The old neighborhood fondly remembers their courting days. Pete and Mary Ann celebrated their 61st anniversary this past June 27.
We will miss his quick, zany humor and his delightful smile, which sometimes made us wonder what he was up to.
We love you, Peter C.!
