Peter E. Brown, 62, passed away February 24, 2025, courageously battling ALS. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, friend, and neighbor who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Peter was born on April 25,1962 in Madisonville, Kentucky to the late Mr. and Mrs. William C. Brown (Julia).
Peter had a wonderful sense of humor and was identified as the class clown at a very young age. He graduated from Madisonville-North Hopkins High School. Pete received his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources from the University of the South (Sewanee). He earned his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1989 and was licensed to practice in Kentucky and Georgia. Pete did not stop there, earning an MBA from Eastern Kentucky University that worked well with his chosen legal work.
Pete had a multi-faceted legal practice, but he was best known for his work helping people unable to protect themselves. Pete advocated for the best interests of children as a guardian ad litem for 25 years, many of these children/youth were from abusive and dangerous situations. Pete helped families negotiate the juvenile and domestic court systems. Also, as his career developed, he acted as a guardian and conservator for individuals who were deemed unable to care for themselves, giving them a better life at their most vulnerable times.
Pete was appointed by the courts and respected by his peers because he was a "straight talker" who pushed common sense solutions. Pete was admired by colleagues and adversaries because he was honest, meticulous and reliable. But he was also a "great guy" that brought humor to tough situations. If Pete's voice was heard down the hall, his friends walked that way to enjoy his company for a while. His clients will miss his intellect and compassion; his fellow professionals and friends will miss the joy he brought to his and their work.
Peter gave much of his time to the Lexington Community. He served on the Board of Adjustments; regularly volunteered at Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Conferences; and so much more.
More than anything, Peter loved his wife Rashmi, who he lovingly referred to as "Punkie" and their daughter Sunni, who he called "Pee Wee". Peter and Rashmi were married 24 years. Their family grew in 2002 with the birth of Sunalini. Seeing his daughter grow into an intelligent and beautiful young woman was one of Peter's greatest joys.
Peter loved his big dogs, Clover, Mooshka, and Kula as well as the many who came before them. He was the BEST DOG PAPI around. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, his many Landcruiser trucks, hanging out with his Cruiser club friends, and cold PBRs.
In addition to his wife and daughter, Peter is survived by two sisters, Sarah Van Pelt and Virginia Martin (Mike) and nieces Julia Martin Strawn (Caleb) and Lucy Martin Eck (Austin), and a host of friends and loved ones.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the end of March with date, venue and time to be established. In lieu of flowers, Peter would have wanted to have donations to the Kentucky ALS Foundation to continue the fight against ALS, the Lexington Humane Society or Flora Cliff Nature Santuary.

Peter was a long time member of the Bluegrass Mustang Club. I worked with him numerous times over the years on his 1966 Mustang convertible making it safer and more enjoyable to drive. I can tell you this he was not afraid to get his hands dirty. He was a joy to work with and be around. I am sure he will be sadly missed by all who knew him........

All the staff on 5B are thinking of your family! The short time I took care of Peter, he made me laugh more times than I can count. His loving wife and daughter were truly the best. You´re all in our prayers.

I met Peter by chance while on a camping trip I attended in Kentucky. A few buddies got together to take our trucks off-road. He was part of the group and you could tell he truly enjoyed being out in his Land Cruiser.

I knew right away that we would be friends. He was quick to laugh and always seemed to be smiling. He was a joy to camp with and always had a PBR at the ready for me. His kindness was infectious and his passion for friendship was a true blessing.

I´m proud to call him my friend and I am excited to see him again when I´m called home.
