Peter Cervi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Funeral Service - Delmar on Mar. 15, 2025.
Peter Anthony Cervi died suddenly at Albany Medical Center on March 10, 2025.
Peter loved life.
He loved his family, his countless friends, and - most of all - he loved his devoted partner George Zeno.
He loved cars, dogs, all things Italian, community service, parties, work, gardening, and more. If one was a friend of Peter's and involved in a performance, art opening, or fund-raiser, one could be sure that Peter would be there in enthusiastic support.
Peter was born in Buffalo, New York, on October 27, 1941, to Vincent and Marie Cervi.
After graduating from college Peter served in the Peace Corps for 2 years, teaching English to elementary school students in Africa. He returned to the US where he parlayed his love of cars into a successful career as a Porsche salesman in Manhattan. Peter then founded Camp Ca-nine on the upper West Side - one of the first dog daycare businesses in New York City.
Peter and George bought their house in Malden Bridge in 2005, spending weekends in the country before relocating full time.
Peter was on the Board of Directors of Neighbors of Northern Columbia County and Vice Presi-dent of CABA. He was a member of the Old Chatham Hunt Club and the Society of New Con-cord. Peter served as President of Columbia County Habitat for Humanity and on the Vestry at Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson.
Peter worked for many years at Chatham Wine and Liquor. He loved helping customers pick just the right wine for special occasions and being the definitive news source for the area.
Peter is survived by his partner George, his brother Louis Cervi, his nephews Douglas Cervi, Donald Cervi, David Cervi, Daniel Cervi and their children.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Neighbors of Northern Columbia County [nncc1.org] or Columbia-Greene Humane Society [cghs.org]

I have no words for how much I loved Peter! We first met in Africa when we lived in the same town, Musoma, Tanzania, 1964. and taught school. At that point, we became life-long friends. We traveled throughout Tanzania together and went on a safari together all throughout the Middle East including to Petra. When we came home from the Peace Corps, we remained fast friends and visited each other. I went often to New York City where Peter showed me around and treated me like royalty.I have wonderful memories of Peter and I in New York City included many times in the Village.
Peter was a role model to me. He always pointed me in the right direction and his generosity led the way. He was an amazing, generous man. And he was resolute in helping others. Throughout the years, Peter and I talked regularly on the phone and always laughed through our conversations. Peter was my friend and soulmate. I will never get over his being gone.

The world is a lesser place without Peter. He was a gentleman and a devoted community member. I miss him already.

Peter was a wonderful coworker. During the pandemic his positive attitude was a light during many dim days. We spoke of cars , dogs and gardening. A vibrant caring man. I´m shocked and saddened.
