Peter H. Clarkin

Peter H. Clarkin Sr., age 72, of Ocean View, DE, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021.
Peter was born in Providence, RI, son of the late Helen (Sylvia) and Francis Clarkin. He graduated from Goldey-Beacom with an associate degree before proudly serving our country in the Delaware Air National Guard, retiring after more than 30 years of service as a Chief Master Sergeant. Peter loved telling stories about his time in the Guard. From the finance classes he traveled around the country teaching to the softball tournaments he played, every story was told with a laugh and smile. He cherished those memories and the friendships he made.
Peter enjoyed cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. No matter the outcome, they were his teams. Peter was very active in his community of Cedar Landing and considered all his neighbors and friends his second family. Peter was the go-to guy, the voice of reason and a friend to everyone. His neighborhood was so very special to him, everyone looking after each other. He loved beach living spending his days either at the pool or sitting on the beach with his friends and family. Above all, Peter was a true family-man. His greatest joy was "his boys". Nothing made him prouder and happier to see them grow up to amazing young men. He was always up for an adventure and nothing pleased him more than traveling with his family. From Las Vegas to Disney and St. Lucia to Tennessee, he had stories for days about the fun he had with "his crew". In addition to his parents, Peter was also predeceased by his loving wife, Sandra Clarkin. There is no doubt they are in heaven together toasting with gin and tonics and watching the waves on the beach.
Peter is survived by his loving daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Wiant of Newark; son, Peter H. (Jennifer) Clarkin Jr.; grandsons, Matthew Wiant, Tyler Wiant, Nathan McDowell, and Tommy Clarkin; brothers, Francis (Jean) Clarkin of Bel Air, MD and Robert (Ann) Clarkin of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Carol Claudfelter of Ocean View, DE; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
A visitation for Peter will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, on Thursday, January 13, 2022 where friends and family may call from 10AM to 11:30AM with funeral services beginning at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
