Peter J. Edwards II, Dzoä's'ah, 40, Seneca Wolf Clan of Six Nations unexpectedly left us on Mother's Day, May 12, 2024 to begin his journey back to the Creator. He was predeceased by his father, Peter J. Edwards; his maternal grandmother, Shirley M. Lyons; his paternal grandmother, Doris Farmer; and his brother, Jonathan Edwards. He leaves behind his children: Adaybria (Onondaga Nation), Aris & Levi (Six Nations), and his chosen son, Gavin (Six Nations); his mother, Kelly (Cattaraugus); sisters: Kathleen, Tara (Anthony), and Randi; brothers: Neil, Jamie, Nathaniel; nine uncles; four aunties; great uncles, Oren & Kingsley Lyons; many, many cousins; and numerous cherished nieces & nephews.
Peter grew up on the Onondaga Nation. He had a deep love & connection with his family, community, and culture. He was a known prankster who loved joking around with his family & friends, and he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting. At 7, Peter learned the craft of carpentry by helping his father build their home on the Onondaga Nation. He often joked that it was forced child labor, but Peter loved working with his hands and later became a carpenter. Throughout his life, he helped many people build their homes. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was building, drawing or crafting; and he loved sports, playing lacrosse, football, and wrestling. He also had a passion for anything fast- cars, boats, and bikes. Peter had a big heart. He would do anything to help family, friends, and strangers. He rescued many wild animals, and he had a special bond with his dogs. He will be remembered for his tireless efforts to protect and promote understanding and awareness of Haudenosaunee people and their culture. In 2013, he accompanied family and friends on a 386 mile, 28 day canoe journey from the waters of the Onondaga Nation through the Hudson River to the United Nations in New York City to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the Two Row Wampum Treaty. His efforts to help raise awareness about the Haudenosaunee and their special relationship with the Dutch and the nations of the world will not be forgotten. Peter will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Service: 10am Friday May 17 at the family home, 3949 Commissary Rd., Onondaga Nation and 11am at the Longhouse. He will be waked at his family home for family and friends starting Wednesday.
