JEFFERSON - Peter C. Febel, 92, passed away early Friday morning, September 5, 2025, in the comfort of his own home with his family by his side.
Pete was born in Garfield Heights on April 30, 1933, the son of Adam and M. Helen (Gutwein) Febel and moved to Austinburg in 1947.
He graduated from Austinburg High School in 1951, where he excelled at baseball and basketball, and received a scholarship to play basketball at Hiram College; but instead in 1952 he went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Oglethorpe until his honorable discharge from service in 1956.
On March 6, 1955, while on short leave from the Navy, he made the best decision of his life when he married D.Joanne Park. Together Pete and Joanne have been blessed with over 70 years of marriage; a marriage that has been filled with love, happiness and the most precious memories a couple could ever ask for. A marriage that blessed them with children, that went on to give them grandchildren and great grandchildren. And, for those people who truly know Pete, they know that his life has been centered around providing for his family with unconditional love and support and always being an active role in their lives.
Pete worked for Reliance Electric for 37 years until his retirement in 1988 and went on to work part-time for Fleming Funeral Home for 27 years.
He's been a lifetime member of the Eagleville Bible Church, a member of the Elks #208, The Jefferson Exchange Club, a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #41, a Manager for Jefferson Little League and a Coach for the Jefferson Midget Football League. He also served as a football coach for Jefferson High School for 20 years. He was active in many bowling, hardball, and softball leagues. He was also a Little League Umpire where he received the highest honor and was asked to be an Umpire at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
After his children had grown up, and he and Joanne became grandparents, their lives became consumed with their grandchildren's daily activities and events. They were so proud of all of them. They spent the winters in Florida for many years, and Pete always stayed busy around the house. He always enjoyed a night out with friends or family with a glass of wine and a good meal. He will be missed dearly by so many.
