In Loving Memory of Peter Olaf Flom
It is with deep sorrow and great love that we announce the passing of Pete, a devoted husband, loving father, adoring grandfather, favorite uncle, and faithful servant of God, who left this world peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 79 years.
Born on December 2, 1945,
Pete was a man of great strength, unwavering humility, and boundless generosity. He spent over 50 years working with pride and dedication at Westside Volkswagen, where he was not only a loyal employee but also a cherished friend and mentor to many. His work ethic and integrity were unmatched, and he became a fixture in the community through both his professional and personal life.
He was a loving father and grandfather, and the beloved husband of Nancy, with whom he shared 55 beautiful years of marriage-a love story rooted in faith, respect, and enduring companionship. Together, they raised three daughters who were the light of his life. He was a gentle, guiding presence in their lives, always offering love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
A devout Catholic, Pete found strength and purpose in his faith. He was deeply committed to the church and lived out the teachings of Christ in all he did. He never spoke ill of anyone and treated every person with kindness and compassion. To know him was to know true goodness-he would give the shirt off his back without a second thought.
Whether it was lending a hand to a neighbor, sharing a quiet moment of prayer, or simply offering a warm smile, Pete left a legacy of love, humility, and generosity. He was a joyful storyteller who also had an enduring mischievous, playful side. His life was a testament to the power of faith and the beauty of a selfless heart.
Preceded in death by his parents, Agnes Sandmeyer (Doerfler), Herbert Flom, and granddaughter Ruby Streefland.
He is survived by his wife Nancy (Hoiosen), his three daughters Tina (Jess) Streefland, Angela (Brad) Lutz, Maria Flom (Josh Willcoxen ), five grandchildren, Luke, Zack, Cole Streefland, Olivia Lutz, Kinley Desubijana, and a wide circle of family, friends, and community members who were touched by his life.

We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved so dearly.

When I hear someone referred to with words like humble, kind, hardworking, responsible, dedicated, and, above all, friend, I think of Pete. Pete was all of that and much more. I can say that the time we worked together was, without a doubt, one of the best I've ever had. Although, like everything, it wasn't easy to gain his trust at first, spending so much time together at work gave us the opportunity to get to know each other, get along, and become friends. We shared many experiences-life experiences on his part, and travels and adventures on my part. Working with Pete was like being on your favorite sports team; you knew you could count on him because you knew his moves, and he knew yours.

The fact that he was also a bit naive meant that each day ended with, if not one, at least a few fun adventures that I will remember with joy.

He liked to bet and challenge you, both verbally and by shaking your hand. I don't gamble, but he was so persistent that he convinced me to accept his bets. The funny thing was that from the beginning-I don't know why, maybe it was the universe-I always won, and he ended up furious, wanting revenge, but always losing. Still, instead of harboring animosity, that created the beginning of our friendship. Gambling wasn't the only thing; there were many moments, simple things, that ultimately created stories to remember.

I remember one time we were sorting cars in a parking lot. I saw one had a flat tire, and Pete asked Tony to pump it up with the new compressor we'd just bought. Tony didn't know how to start it, so Pete got out of the minivan to help him, but he couldn't start it either. I tried to get out of the van a couple of times to help, but Pete closed the door on me and, with a straight face, said, "No, stay put." I was laughing because I knew he wanted to prove he could do it without my help, while Tony watched and chuckled. After several attempts, he finally opened the door for me and said, "Well, tell us how to start it." I only did one thing: leaned over and pressed a button right in front of the compressor box, that for some reason they couldn't see it. As soon as the compressor started, Pete looked up at the sky and yelled, "Why, why?" Then he turned around, put his hands on my neck, shook me, and said, "One of these days, DJ, one of these days."

I am grateful to have enjoyed his company during the final part of his life's journey.

We will definitely miss him. I know I will.
