Peter R Gladitsch

Peter Gladitsch, age 92, passed away peacefully in his home on August 1, 2023. Peter was born in Gottschee, Yugoslavia and came to the United States in 1951. He started his career in New York as a skilled machinist for an industrial supply company and later worked for and spent most of his career at Consolidated Edison where he retired from in 1993. In the late 1950s, he met Albina Koenig who he married in May 1960. Peter and his wife Albina had two children; Peter who was born in March 1961, and Heidi who was born in January 1966.
In addition to being a loving husband, father and Opa, Peter was an avid dancer and loved t0 listen to German music. He also enjoyed many summers in his country home that he had built in northeast Pennsylvania. He took great pleasure in growing vegetables and fruit trees. Peter was also very resourceful when it came to repairing anything broken. He was often the "go-to" person to help in a time of need whenever anything needed to be fixed or repaired. Peter was also an avid card player and enjoyed time playing cards with family and friends.
Peter is survived by his son, Peter Gladitsch, daughter Heidi Keeney, daughter-in-law Jane Gladitsch and son-in-law Mark Keeney
Peter is also survived by his grand children Mathew Keeney, Christopher Gladitsch, James Keeney, Kimberly Gladitsch, Jozie Berardi and Grace Berardi.
Peter served in the United States Army during the Korean War at Fort Meade and Fort Knox. He was honorably discharged and received National Defense and Good Conduct medals.
The family would like to invite family and friends to the Schwille Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3rd from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at Saint Pancras Church in Glendale, New York on Friday, August 4th at 9:30 AM.
