Marion, Indiana
At 9:37 pm on January 8, 2026, Peter Guarneri, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 79, just three weeks shy of his 80th birthday.
Pete was born on January 29, 1946, in Derby, Connecticut, to the late Peter Guarneri, Sr. and Jane Guarneri. Early in his childhood, he moved to Marion, Indiana and as a young adult, Pete proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home safely, he married the love of his life, Shirley Guarneri, who preceded him in death in 2021.
Throughout his working years, Pete had two passions. The first was his full-time and lifelong career as a barber. He owned and operated Pete's 38th Street Barber Shop for 55 years and continued cutting hair until the very day he passed. His second passion was baseball. Pete coached for many years, and his team won the Firemen's Tournament in 1980, a tournament that still runs today at Lincoln
Field. He later served as Commissioner of Lincoln Field for 45 years, devoting over half of his life to helping young boys and girls develop into skilled athletes, but he was most proud of his own three sons and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors.
Pete was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Pete will be dearly missed by his three sons: son Carl (Penny) Guarneri, and daughters Erin (Isaac) McGaughey, with children Everly, Eisley, and Isaiah. Emily (Brad) Andrews, with children Brody, Brooks, and Brycen. Elizabeth (Luke) Yeadon, with son Will. Step-grandchildren Blake (Heather) Gabbard, and Brittany (Keith) Yager. Son, Ronnie (Beth) Guarneri, and children Taylor (Evan) Guggenburger, with daughter Goldie, Jenna, Rachel, Mitchell, and RJ Guarneri. Step-grandchildren Ethen and Garrett Swanson. Son, Tony Guarneri, and children, Shelby Guarneri with daughter Emma Guarneri, and Rylee Guarneri.
Also surviving are his nephew Darren (Susan) Reese and great-nephew Dillon Reese.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Shirley; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phil and Donna Reese; and his nephew, Donny Reese.
In accordance with Pete's wishes, no funeral or public service will be held. The family will gather privately for a celebration of life at a later date.
