Today, we honor the life and legacy of Peter Douglas James Kalich, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on April 12, 1950, in Watsonville, California, Pete lived a life rooted in love, curiosity, and quiet strength.
For 26 years, Pete dedicated his career to Pacific Extrusions, where he was known for his work ethic, precision, and the kind of loyalty that inspired those around him. Later, he spent another decade as an IT specialist, always eager to embrace new technology and continue learning-something that came naturally to his ever-curious mind.
Pete was a man of many passions. He found joy in woodworking, turning simple materials into pieces filled with heart and craftsmanship. He could often be found sorting nuts and bolts into old coffee cans-a small but perfect reflection of his organized and thoughtful nature. His love for astronomy and science fiction, especially Star Trek and Star Wars, mirrored his fascination with the universe and all its mysteries. And his favorite adventures were spent camping in Death Valley, finding peace in the beauty of the desert sky.
At the center of Pete's world was his family. He shared more than five decades of unwavering love and partnership with his devoted wife, Linda, and together they built a legacy of laughter, resilience, and devotion. He took tremendous pride in his son, Doug, and found immense joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren-Dylan (and wife Makenna) Kalich and their son Dixon, and Taryn (and husband Tyler) Huggins and their daughter Avery.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Nick Sr. and Ann Kalich, and his siblings Michael, Rosanne, Tom, Nick Jr., and Mary Turner. He is survived by his beloved brother Joe Kalich, who continues to carry forward their shared memories and family legacy.
In his final years, Pete faced illness with remarkable courage and grace, cherishing every moment with those he loved most. His family is deeply grateful for the time they shared-especially the memories made during these past few years, which brought him profound joy and peace.
There will be no formal service, as Pete wished for his loved ones to celebrate his life in their own personal ways-perhaps by sharing a story, gazing at the night sky, or simply organizing a coffee can of bolts and smiling in his honor.
