Peter "Pete" Kelly

Pete Kelly passed away on September 1, 2024 in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin due to heart related complications. He was 78 years old. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 19, 1945 to Donald and Loretta Kelly and was the youngest of 3 boys. He married Mary Ann Fitzgerald in 1968.
Pete studied Chemical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He started his career at Amoco Oil and worked in Chicago, Tulsa, and Denver. In 1975, he moved to Houston, Texas to work for Jacobs Engineering which is where he spent the rest of his career in various capacities. During his time with Jacobs he had the opportunity to travel extensively in both the U.S. and abroad. He also developed many great friendships with his colleagues and mentored many younger engineers.
Pete had many notable hobbies including playing his trombone. He was very proud of his grandson, Elliot, who also played the baritone and trombone in bands in High School and now at Virginia Tech. He also taught himself the piano and played extensively in his retirement. Like his wife Mary Ann, who passed away in January 2024, he enjoyed all the activities that Elkhart Lake has to offer including golfing and watching the car races at Road America. He also enjoyed the many generations of boxer dogs that Mary Ann was so fond of including Summer, who he loved to take to the dog park.
Pete is survived by his brother Don, his daughter Colleen, and grandson Elliot.
