Peter "Pete" Daniel Kozumplik age 73, of Grantsburg, WI passed away Thursday November 14th, 2024 at The Neighbors of Dunn County Memory Care facility after a long fought battle with Lewy Body dementia.
Pete was born on February 11th, 1951 in Hillsdale, MI to John and Marjorie Kozumplik. They relocated to Grantsburg, WI where he spent many years on the family farm near Big Wood Lake. Pete graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1969.
In 1970, Pete and his wife Ilene welcomed their son Jeremy into this world. The family of three resided in Osceola, WI for about a year before they relocated to Knapp, WI for the next four years. Pete and Ilene went separate directions and divorced in 1975.
In 1983, Pete again became a father to his daughter Kelsey with his long time girlfriend and trucking partner Laurie.
Pete married for the second time in 1998 to Donna Kozumplik. Viva Las Vegas!! They spent many years adventuring together until their divorce in 2018. Pete spent more time on the road than he did at his own log home that he spent many years building on an adjacent parcel carved out from the original Kozumplik farm property. From driving semi-truck across the country to long motorcycle rides, one thing to be true of Pete is that he loved the open road. His 18 wheeler was his pride and joy. Before he retired in 2008, he spent many years driving "The White House" to California and back.
Pete had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs and squirrels. Some will find this funny when I say, he was closer to his animals than he was with his own children. (it's ok to laugh....we do) In all seriousness, Pete was a great guy. Very hard exterior with a heart made of gold. Life maybe didn't turn out the way that it could have for Pete and his children, but we do believe that his heart was always there. He held on to many things from his children throughout the years that were discovered after his passing.
When Pete wasn't in the semi or on the motorcycle, you could find him on a lake ice fishing, camping, ATVing, or hanging out at Bear Camp with friends kicking back with a cold one or two.
Pete is survived by his son Jeremy (Jody) Kozumplik, daughter Kelsey (Ryan) Skow, grandchildren Trysten and Olivia, and his two brothers Robert (Irene) Kozumplik and Patrick "Tony" Kozumplik.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Karl and several pets. He will be laid to rest next to his parents and eldest brother John "Karl" Kozumplik at the Wood Lake Cemetery. A small private burial will be held next spring.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 14th, 2024 from 1-4pm at Hummer's Rendezvous and Event Center in Grantsburg, WI.
A special thank you to Robbyn Bowman for being there for Pete during his final years. Both Jeremy and Kelsey are thankful for your love and support of Pete during some of the most difficult times. He was fortunate to have you be a part of his life.
