"Devoted to his family"
MORRIS – Peter J. Macary, age 62 of Morris passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit of St. Mary's Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Christina (Melninkas) Macary.
Peter was born on September 25, 1959 in Bethesda, MD, the son of the late Dr. Joseph and Janet (Breece) Macary. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country with the U.S Air Force for 6 years, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Following his discharge, he was employed for most of his career as a Carpenter, primarily with O&G Industries and Nickerson General Contractors.
Peter was truly one of a kind. He made the world a better place for all of us and we are thankful to have had him in our lives while we did. Peter enjoyed life to the fullest blessed by his loving family and friends. He was a loyal Mets – LGM! – and UConn Huskies fan. He loved fishing any time of the year and playing horseshoes. Peter loved his family and always looked forward to Macary family reunions, which took place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Peter's favorite saying was "Keep the faith" ; his family will do that and they ask all others to do the same.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife of 34 years, are his children: son, Daniel Macary (Stephanie Vadnais); his daughter, Chelsea Macary and her fiancée Christopher Urbas; his daughter, Amber Macary, and his step-daughter, Monica (Wilkas) Morgan. He also leaves his brothers: Paul (Bridget), Richard (Jean), Matthew (Laura), Andrew (Sandy), Patrick (Stephanie), and his stepdad Louis Federico. Peter and Christina were blessed with two grandchildren, Tyler and Emme, and several nieces and nephews: Alana, Kyle, Sara, Joe, Lauren, Tyler, Ayla, Peighton, Jason, Justin, Paul, David and Tim, as well as many cousins, second cousins, close friends and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Janet Macary, and his nephews Richard Macary Jr., and Joseph Prout.
The family would like to thank the healthcare team at YNHH Smilow Cancer Center, NP7 and VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital for all their wonderful support.
Relatives and friends may visit with the Macary Family on Thursday, July 14, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Casey - O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville, CT 06779.
To honor Peter's memory and in lieu of flowers, contributions to myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) research through the Hematology Program Fund at Smilow Cancer Hospital would be greatly appreciated by his family. I can still remember pushing open the screen door of the Morris Country Store and being greeted by Pete´s warm smile and twinkling eyes. He had a nickname for everyone wether he knew them or not and treated everyone as a friend he hadn´t yet met. I was so lucky to work with him; counting mealworms and night crawlers, fishing out minnows, grilling breakfast sandwiches and scratching (I mean selling) lottery tickets. I was too young to realize how few special souls there are in this world like Pete. I loved being a part of the MCS family. My heart goes out to Chris, Danny, Chelsea and Amber. This week I will watch Rudy in his honor and fondly remember the `summer of Pete´.
